And in Denmark he's Holger.

Dammit! Beat me to it by 30 minutes, you fiend! πŸ˜„

If you'd just stick an r in there, you two could be friends.

[–] SlicedPotato@feddit.dk 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah, another Dane I suppose?

Indeed 😁

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again.

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

With any luck, he's got his other shoe already.

Why are we all looking for this guy? Forgot what he did to be the world's most wanted fugitive?

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago (2 children)

In my headcanon, I'm shipping Waldo and Carmen Sandiego. Nobody can find them, and they travel the world on a global crime spree.

[–] TeddE@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

In my head, Waldo is a trans guy, living his best life, using his dead name Carmen Sandiego, drag, and gender norms as an effective tool as an effective shield against the authorities to seperate their work life from their personal life.

This is why Carmen is flashy, memorable, and bold while Waldo is quiet and casual.

That newer Carmen San Diego cartoon is pretty fun.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

He has been framed by Odlaw and the Waldo Watchers.....

In Sweden, Donald Duck is named Kalle and Garfield is named Gustaf, so pretty much everyone gets renamed.

In Germany, we say Hofnarr.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Sag bloß ;D

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why does it have someone explaining the joke?

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

True but could have been something that added to the punchline rather than simply explaining it

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Could've laid out the entire thing differently from the beginning :) (j/k, the author thinks their audience is stupid, of course)

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 months ago

TBF, looking around at the general population, their audience is statistically likely to be someone stupid.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

They have no problem finding him, they have a problem holding him.

[–] Echo5@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Some good OPSEC (PERSEC?)

[–] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

International criminal mastermind.

Rare instance of yanks taking β€œy”s out of a name.

The schtick is that his name rhymes w/ whatever the pronunciation of "where" is in the current language

EDIT: yeah, I'm totally wrong. It does for my language, thought this is the general rule. Don't want to doxx myself.

I don't know about French but for the other languages I can say it's not true

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Where can I learn to spin yarns like that?
