Rules for Posting Guides on Our Community

1. Defining a Guide Guides are comprehensive reference materials, how-tos, or comparison tables. A guide must be well-organized both in content and layout. Information should be easily accessible without unnecessary navigation. Guides can include flowcharts, step-by-step instructions, or visual references that compare different elements side by side.

2. Infographic Guidelines Infographics are permitted if they are educational and informative. They should aim to convey complex information visually and clearly. However, infographics that primarily serve as visual essays without structured guidance will be subject to removal.

3. Grey Area Moderators may use discretion when deciding to remove posts. If in doubt, message us or use downvotes for content you find inappropriate.

4. Source Attribution If you know the original source of a guide, share it in the comments to credit the creators.

5. Diverse Content To keep our community engaging, avoid saturating the feed with similar topics. Excessive posts on a single topic may be moderated to maintain diversity.

6. Verify in Comments Always check the comments for additional insights or corrections. Moderators rely on community expertise for accuracy.

Uniquely searched pies

cream pie

Are we sure this was for thanksgiving?

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 43 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Title is utter horseshit.

The map is only a measure of "unique searches" by people from that state on Google. Nothing to do with actual preferences, just what they searched.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Yup. No one is searching pumpkin pie. Either you're buying it, or you know how to make it.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

That's exactly my thought. This list is probably closer to, "second pie we want to try".

I call bullshit. If anyone shows up to thanksgiving with anything other than Apple or Pumpkin there's gonna be some issues.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 20 points 3 weeks ago

pecan is pretty synonomous with the holidays.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I dunno, butterscotch pie sounds pretty delicious

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago

Most of these pies do. But that doesn't mean they belong in a Thanksgiving meal.

Clearly you've never had shoofly pie

We also typically have chocolate and pecan pies in addition to pumpkin and apple in my family.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

What, you don't like a good creampie for the holidays?

It is from a real huffpost "article" that I found, but yeah, it's basically rage bait.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah no hate on you OP :)

I figured it was either by someone outside the US or someone who just thought it was good conversation anyways.

Washington, the apple state, at the end of apple season, with the blackberry pie???? Nah bro, no way

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 15 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I've never even fucking heard of the pie that is apparently the most popular in my state. I call bullshit.

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago

The bullshit is that the title of the post and the title of the graph are very different. Just because it’s heavily searched recently would not make it a favorite. Favorites don’t have to be searched, you already have it written down on an index card from the 90’s. You copied it from your grandmother who got it off a pie tin in the 70’s.

yeah what the pity fuck is a "buttermilk pie"?

[–] musky_occultist@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I don't think sweet potato pie is as big as they think, but more to the point, I'm angry about it being included with "savory."

I've been in Indiana for an AWFULLY long time to have never seen a Peanut Butter Pie at all, let alone at Thanksgiving. Pumpkin, Apple, Sweet Potato, and maybe Pecan, Cherry or even Peach pies, sure, but I'm not entirely convinced that half the other stuff on this map even exists.

WTF Is buttermilk pie? Lived in the south for a long time and never heard of it.

I lived in NC for 28 years, never heard of buttermilk pie. Derby and pumkin were popular as well as pecan.

I've lived in Ohio my whole life and I've never seen a Butterscotch pie or heard of anyone having one.

The lack of talk about shoofly pie really saddens me since its the best pie

[–] Sh00Fly@piefed.social 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, it is the best pie! 🥧 Nice to meet you, lilith267. You are now my bestie.

I know a lot of people are complaining about the accuracy of... basically everything about this map.

But what really bothers me is that I feel with every fiber of my being like Pumpkin Pie and Key Lime Pie shouldn't be in the same category as each other. They're just not the same kind of experience. Regardless of who eats them when.

[–] aeiou_ckr@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

TIL that Tamale Pie is a thing.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

And it (much like Frito pie, grape pie, etc.) is bullshit.

Washington DC searching “banoffee pie”? Is that banana and coffee?!

[–] MaddestMax@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This one interested me too. Zero coffee. Wtf?!

This easy banoffee pie combines a crunchy graham cracker crust, sweet dulce de leche, thick slices of fresh banana, and billowy whipped cream.

Toffee, not coffee. It's a British thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banoffee_pie

Pumpkin pie or bust

[–] LostWanderer@fedia.io 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I've never had a Frito Chili Pie for Thanksgiving...In all my years of living in Kansas. It was either Pumpkin, Apple, or Chocolate Silk. My family must have been an outlier.
