But we did manage to make a few men extremely wealthy beyond all imagination for a short time. Isn't that something worth celebrating?

And remember, their wealth wasnโ€™t even real but rather was in extremely over-valued stock options which they used to get loans they didnโ€™t really ever pay back. Also all the libertarians supporting them were complaining about how getting away from the gold standard was evil because of printing too much money while these ultra-rich people could use that aforementioned loophole to magic billions into existence just by saying an existing algorithm was โ€œAIโ€ now.

We are so stupid.

Remember the kids show Dinosaurs? In the last episode, the dinosaurs are facing extinction by ice age. The devastated father explains to the kids that they could have prevented it, but didn't out of greed and arrogance. They did not appreciate what they had and thought that surely some magical futuristic technology would be invented some time to take the responsibility off and solve the problem for them. But of course that didn't happen. Now they have to accept the consequences.

That was in 1994.

I just finished Little Brother: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Brother_(Doctorow_novel)

"The novel is about four teenagers...in the aftermath of a terrorist attack...defend themselves against the Department of Homeland Security's attacks on the Bill of Rights."

It took me a long time, because I had to read it in small sections due to my anxiety going out of control. It felt a little too on the nose with ICE kidnapping people off the streets.

Next Up: Falling Down (1993)

Goes to show how long the "climate scare" has been going on. And it started many decades before the 90s even.
