This is literally my first ever comment on Lemmy - been lurking since Apollo went dark. Going to try and be way more active here than I ever was on Reddit, need to start throwing more upvotes around too.

I have a nice little folder on my homescreen full of apps I’m switching between which is fun in itself watching them develop super fast, with great updates from the devs and server hosts which adds to the feeling of being in on the ground floor (typing this on Memmy, but also enjoying wefwef when it works for me).

There’s a real feeling here of “something” happening, but no one quite knows what it is yet. I wasn’t there for the really early days of Reddit, but I presume it felt a bit like this. The Beans situation was fun to watch come and go.

I haven’t built up a sub list of communities yet like quite like I had, so mostly just browsing All to soak in the entire platform, but that will come with time as it did over there.

Overall, it’s solidly filling the Apollo sized hole in my heart and in my day-to-day doomscrolling. I’m definitely sticking around for the long haul here - fuck you u/Spez.

It has been fun so far. Just wishing more content eas here, but hopefully it'll increase with time.

@alphapro784 I feel like I'm using it wrong. I only see replies in my feed, not the original question. Probably user error on my part. Just haven't had the time to explore it.

I miss some of the subs from reddit but I don't want to deal with their app.

I like it but definitely miss some of the more niche subreddits that I followed back on reddit, but hopefully those come over as Lemmy grows.

Now that I've gotten used to the differences I'm enjoying it, fills a lot of the whole left by reddit. The only thing I'm missing is the scale of the user base making some of the more niche subreddits I used to spend the most time on not have a very active analog here

[–] Usernameblankface@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I find it refreshing, for the most part. I've found that comments and replies are much more civil, I'm still getting used to the way users here disagree with actual reasoning while maintening respect for the other perspective. I had ads blocked before, but being absolutely ad free, without even the blank space where an ad would go is even better. The only downside is the amount of space dedicated to complaining about reddit. I don't wish to stop anyone from processing in whatever way they need, I just need to spend more time in my subscriptions instead of "all".

Good quality memes so far, content for specific communities such as games or sports is lacking

[–] mintiefresh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Been here about 3 weeks and every day it's feeling more like home.

I won't be going back to reddit.

[–] Lateralking@vlemmy.net 3 points 2 years ago

I see a lot of reposted content or no content changes because of lack of user activity unfortunately.

That's driving me to use my phone less though so that's a plus.

I'd like to be able to group multiple subs into a mult-iLemmy that I can save to refer to. e.g I have multiple gaming subs I'd like to group into a single browsable page titled "games". Any way to do multi-subs?

Great but there’s some frustrations. My instance appears overloaded and often voting or commenting fails. I’m also using alpha software so it’s unstable. And the communities are much tinier and quieter.

I’m sure in a few weeks there will be some big improvements. Early mastodon was like this too.

Not gonna lie it was really confusing to begin with, even with a guide. Partially because I dropped by kbin first.

the site loads way faster for me than reddit ever did, to the point that I'm actually stoked about it

Enjoying it a lot. Set up my own instance to try out, and exploring a lot of others. I enjoy the community a ton!

[–] TheGiantKorean@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

My biggest pain point right now is the bugs. I tried posting a rather long reply to something and got a "Beehaw is down for maintenance" message. I'm not sure if it was the instance or my app (Connect), but I ended up losing the post.

Having said that, I really am enjoying my time here. People seem nice and welcoming, and engagement is good. I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress.

Things can only get better!

I am enjoying the experience I must admit and I can't wait to see how things pan out 6 months from now. I am certainly sticking with it for the long run. Wefwef.app is amazing to interact with.

[–] OsakaWilson@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It's good. It has the pre-Digg.com migration vibe that early Reddit had. Niche communities are hard to get started, but that's to be expected.

Lots of positivity.
