Nothing quite stresses me out as trying to defend a town with only a handful of town watch units vs a full stack of barbarians. Using choke points and praying to Jupiter that your pointy stick boys can kill off enough enemies to survive before their pisspoor morale gives out.

My favorite was when I managed to rout an early-game Gallic army with nothing but palisades and a single unit of town watch, because they sent their general in headfirst when they broke down the gate and he was miraculously killed.
Somewhat related. Has anyone here played Caesar 3? I remember playing it as a kid and it had a really cool hidden encyclopedia of Roman life with an article on each type of building you could build.
Played it the other night, its actually on Steam. Just as fun as I remember from playing in highschool.
