comfort movie

The Fountain, Donnie Darko, Butterfly Effect, etc.

🤔

Comfort looks different for different people.

[–] Quexotic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If those are your comfort movies you really need to look into City of the Lost children.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've added to my list.

Kill Bill. Both volumes.

I'm not a big fan of violent movies, I often sleep midway as I'm watching them. Kill Bill though? There's art in every drop of blood.

Bohemian Rhapsody Fighting with my Family A Knights Tale

If it's snowing - Last of the Dogmen If it's raining - Godzilla

If my wife is involved - just start the Harry Potters

Transformers (1986). I can recite every line by memory, in order, I'm pretty sure. That includes all the songs too, soundtrack kicks ass.

I don't think I have one, but if I did it would probably be this.

A lot of 80s stuff I think. But Short-circuit, Explorers, BTTF would be first. And Apollo 13 too

Mood boost: Drop Dead Gorgeous Nostalgia: Rock & Rule Comfort: Lilo & Stitch (2002) Background: does Mystery Science Theater 3000 count? There are a half dozen episodes where both the movie and their commentary are my happy place. Gunslinger, Girls Town, Eegah, Rocketship XM, Mitchell...

[–] tpyo@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

My ex introduced me to Drop Dead Gorgeous probably about 20 years ago. It's absolutely hilarious and it gets funnier every time I watch it

I'm glad to see someone else familiar with the movie

[–] JackiesFridge@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

My partner and I used to live and work in the area in Minnesota where they filmed it (some years after it came out of course). That movie captures the upper Midwest like no other before or since, and its accuracy about the culture there makes it so much funnier.

Modern audiences would raise an eyebrow at a few of the lines (and one of the characters) these days, but honestly people are STILL like that.

Plus the CAST. Allison Janney alone is worth regular re-watches. In fact, I love this movie so much... I work here now!

You know that random odd movie that the family just so happened to own before the Internet became a thing. Ours was Alice in Wonderland. The old Disney one. Still one of my favorites I watch when life gets a little too sad.
