  • Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm Γ— 51 mm Manchurian badger)
  • Razor: Weck Sextoblade (red translucent scales)
  • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet
  • Lather: Chiseled Face Groomatorium – Midnight Stag
  • Post Shave: Henri et Victoria – Cognac and Cuban Cigars
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth – Tobacconist

I woke up and felt like using the Stag today. I don't think I ever combined the sweat running down the mechanic's butt crack with warm, boozy scents before, but it's a great match. Like Lady and the Tramp.

Seems like a brilliant combo to me!

So far, Stag is the only scent my wife has outright vetoed. A bit of a bummer, but sacrifices must be made.

I feel your pain, but I agree that under these circumstances, divorce is warranted.

There was no other option!

It is a great combo!

I was banned from using the Stag for Austere August, but my wife still tolerates the occasional use.

Yeah, cognac, Cubans, and motor oil. That’s an unusual choice. Oddly, I can see how it might work, though.

November 13th, 2025: Leather

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Koraat 15/16 Full Hollow - Sub Exclusive 'Moarteen' (16)
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Leather - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Leather - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive Beard & Face - Balm
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Leather - EdP

First straight shave in a while (Oct. 23rd was my last one). It went ok! Not as close as I've gotten before, but I do believe this edge is ready for a refresh.

I’ve been using my safety razor collection for most of my shaves this month. Quick and easy shaves, and no irritation, but I managed to create a pretty angry ingrown hair. I’m now much more comfortable with a straight.

And of the seven 14s I have, my Moarteen and my Gen 1 Fili are my favorites.

  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline
  • Blade: Accuforge GEM Microcoat (8)
  • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - Samhain - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Barrister's Reserve Lavender - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Lavender, Interrupted - EdT

Sample kill!

I definitely would like to pick up a tub of the BaM/SW release if they still have extras to sell. Samhain is just a killer scent for this time of year.

  • razor: Koraat Wedge
  • progression: Shapton glass 3k -> glass 8k (HC) -> glass seven 0.85 micron -> pasted strop -> rough leather -> denim -> fine leather
  • brush: 4 euro brush
  • lather: De Vergulde Hand origineel
  • post shave: Nivea after shave balm sensitive

Quite a good shave, pretty smooth, almost no blood and low irritation. I refreshed the Koraat edge as the scratch pattern didn't look so good. It is much better now but I can still push it a bit I think. The edge survived quite well today. I think I managed a better shaving angle especially under the chin (I went a bit steep there before). Every shave there is something learn or to pay extra attention to.

That’s part of the fun!

This line made me wonder: do you go by looks to decide whether a refresh is necessary? I was absent here for a bit, so I probably missed it, but if not, have people here talked to you about the packing peanut test?

[–] CsXGF8uzUAOh6fqV@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I don't usually look at the edge to decide on a refresh. Last time I had put a new edge on it with new stones but it didn't erase all the old scratches so I redid it. I think they were diamond scratches still left from when I had restored the blade. I do know about the packing peanuts but I don't have them. I usually try the hanging hair test.

Nice second luxury shave with a sample of the new TSF duck fat base. It was a good lather, but didn't blow me away. It definitely seems better than their mango butter base.

More research necessary.
