This is just more noise and bullshit like demanding to see Obama's birth cert.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 14 points 2 hours ago

Republicans have no intention of abiding by the law, listening to voters, or actually governing. With them, it's all about the racism, cruelty, and lawlessness. Never let them have power again...

[–] theoneandonlyeggboi@lemmings.world 12 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Keep in mind, they're doing this while protecting multiple child rapists within their own party.

I genuinely hope we have mass executions one day for the scumbags taking us for a ride.

dems on first day of getting back into power

we have seen for unity and healing across the isle... parsons all GOP and ICE for their crimes

[–] tatterdemalion@programming.dev 38 points 12 hours ago

ICE just needs to scan his face with the Racistron 2000 app and it overrides his birth certificate, haven't you heard?

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 52 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

No. It’s not. Constitutionally anyway. But… considering the Terrorist Party is above all law it seems….

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

the constitution only matters when the supreme court actually upholds the constitution.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 20 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Don’t they need a functioning government for that?

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

great news, enough dems caved and the senate passed a funding bill, without any of the demands the dems were making in the beginning.

i saw a meme that those light switches that don't actually do anything are actually to switch you between timelines. maybe i fucked it all up when i flipped one of those switches back in 2015.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 16 points 13 hours ago

As shown by SCROTUS recently, no. They will just call it an emergency measure and shove it through.

It is possible, obviously. It might not be legal, but we all know that doesn’t stop the Trump admin.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 112 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Well, we still haven't seen Trump's birth certificate, soo

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 minute ago

Or his tax returns.

[–] KonalaKoala@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

For all we know, Trump's birth certificate states he was born in Moscow, Russia and his birth records state he was raised by the Putin family.

Melania escaped from a Chinese lab conducting unethical research on human-plastic hybridization, that's why they won't produce the birth certificate

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 6 hours ago

i thought it was a human-megalania hybrid, the ancient giant moniter lizard from australia.

A great American city is on the precipice of being run by a communist who has publicly embraced a terroristic ideology,” Representative Andy Ogles from the Republican party said

What the fuck are these cretins on?

Is anyone left from Hitler a "communist" now?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 30 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Is anyone left from Hitler a "communist" now?

Literally and without exaggeration, yes, that's what they truly believe.

What do you mean "now?" Americans have had this habit of calling anyone whose politics they disapprove of a "communist" or "socialist" for a very long time.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 25 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

The best part is they can't even define communism or socialism.

Of course it's possible. We cannot allow it within our society, and it's certainly illegal to do so. The only thing that stops the people who uphold the law from ignoring the law is if people actually stand up to it, since clearly our separation of powers has failed us.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 35 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Just come out and say it you fucking cowards: you are simply racist and have hatred towards Palestinians.

I will dislike you more, but at least you are honest in this regard.

Given the turnout and hype around the election, a riot would ensue if the losers took away citizenship to deprive the winner of their winnings.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

it got both the gop and old GUARD dems(gop-lite) scared. remember HOCHUL said she wont support him, until she was facing re-election, or gillibrand who went on a racist tirade.

No. But also, they'll get away with it.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (2 children)

No they won't, New York has it's own political capital in the form of a massive city that centralizes international trade and politics, and a tight-knight community around that culture. This is why his election is such a huge deal.

Whoever in the administration is still talking about this is just babbling nonsense for their base so they can look like they're big strong tough guys who are fighting the eeeevil brown people communists.

If they actually made a plan to deport the fucking mayor of NEW YORK it would get shot down by every court in the land. They know this, everyone with a brain knows this, so that should tell you who this narrative is being written for.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 34 minutes ago

It's the kind of action that in the current environment risks triggering a break-up of the US and it's pretty much a certainty that if that happens Trumpistan isn't going have any of the rich parts in it.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

New York is resilient if nothing else. It is a dirty, grimy, hazardous city and you have to learn to look out for each other if you want to survive. If they come after the Zo at this point they will disturb the entire wasp's nest. The people supporting the fascists are the same ones who are too scared to set foot in NYC on a nicer day

I say this as a proud New Yorker, but also because fuck fascists

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 24 minutes ago* (last edited 20 minutes ago)

Big city mindset is something else altogether than that of the countryside or even small city: it's an environment that teaches people to have a very low threshold to endure shit from others, even the "nicest" people, because when you live surrounded by thousands of people 24/7 and have to cross paths with literally tens of thousands every day just by walking on the street, enduring shit from others will quickly end up with you getting swamped by crap.

Further, in my own experience (granted, mainly in European cities), the bigger the city the more the people there have a big city's very own special kind of grit. You can see this is even how pedestrians deal with traffic - the bigger the city the less people are willing to just wait for the signs to change and the more likely they are to just tell somebody blocking the way of other pedestrians to "either fucking move or fucking get out of the way".

Of the people I've known over the years the only ones with an even lower threshold for taking shit than me were New Yorkers.
