Is the United States about to start testing nuclear weapons again? Recent comments by United States President Trump suggested that he is strongly considering testing nuclear warheads in response to real and perceived tests by other nuclear powers.

These comments left many confused about the future of US policy and the state of intelligence on adversary nuclear programs.

So what’s going on? As is often the case, President Trump seems to prize unpredictability.

We don’t know what’s going to happen, but it wouldn’t hurt to review where we’ve been.

Probably wants to use them on blue cities that he cannot turn or control

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 hours ago

Really? Ya think maybe it might have to do with distracting us from finding out he’s a fucking pedophile?

It’s not like we don’t know about his flood the zone bullshit. He does it every day. He’s trolling an entire country as a distraction.

My god when did journalism get so fucking stupid?

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 12 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It’s because he’s a child who was given access to firecrackers.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)
[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

No, it’s not. It’s that he’s a pedophile that doesn’t want to be caught. It’s a distraction. As is the “drug boat” murders, and all the other violations of constitutional law.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 hours ago

Oh fuck this is not good

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 5 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

My guess: the test grounds are New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Portland. Maybe with a bit of Ontario and Mexico City as a treat?

...as ever with this regime, I am not sure if I am joking. A lot of precedents and norms are dead, and the beating of the live horse will continue until it has been reduced into glue.

[–] 2deck@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

You actually have an insane person leading your country. What are you doing.

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 20 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like you could follow every headline about trump with “and no one knows why”

It’s practically implied at this point

[–] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Assholes gonna be assholes, I guess.

[–] TheTimeKnife@lemmy.world 12 points 8 hours ago

Conservatives entire personality it based around trying to appear tough. This is just a senile old man trying to impress his fanbase of spoiled buffoons.

[–] qantravon@lemmy.world 15 points 9 hours ago

It's because he desperately wants to use one. It's why he wanted to nuke the hurricane. He thinks it's cool, and wants to be the second president to actually use a nuclear weapon.

I think the politically correct term is “held naked tea parties”.

[–] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Wtf is that true? Fuck I hate America right now. Idk how people still identify as American.

[–] UsefulInfoPlz@lemmy.world 1 points 50 minutes ago

I wish it was as simple as packing up and moving but for most of us it’s not an option. If nothing else this regime has showed the rest of the world just how little it actually needs the US.

We ALL know why. Putin just tested a new nuclear capable missle. This is his flex back. It's just ancient men wanting to look tough to one another

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Whatever it takes to distract from the Epstein files sir! 🫡

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 26 points 12 hours ago

Russia is desperate so started making noise about testing some missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. They like making noise about nukes in general because their conventional forces are failing at taking over Ukraine. Promoting fear of nuclear war is a card they play often, it's easier to list the months Russia hasn't made nuke threats in the last three years than the months they haven't.

Trump is an idiot and didn't understand the distinction between testing nuclear capable missiles and testing actual nuclear weapons. He doesn't understand the Putin is weak now and the noise he's making is a sign of that weakness and instead thinks it's a sign of strength. Trump likes to copy Putin and is too stupid not to understand the distinction between a missile test and a nuclear weapons test, so started talking about doing nuclear weapons tests.

His administration is full of idiots that are only there because they are loyal to him and so they didn't explain it to him. When a reporter explained the distinction between nuclear capable missile and actual nuclear weapons, since Trump is incapable of admitting he's wrong about anything he insisted that Russia and China are testing nuclear weapons. But he's the only one in the world that knows about it apparently.

Now it's a weird situation where Trump's sycophants probably know it's stupid to do, but they aren't going to question dear leader's orders. But that doesn't mean it will happen since they may be too incompetent to be able to do such a test. I'm not sure if they know it's actually the Department of Energy that does nuclear testing not the Department of ~~Defense~~ War that do them. The facilities to do them have been repurposed so there would need to be some work done to make it possible even if they figure out which department does them.

There's a significant likelihood that Trump gets distracted be something else before the administration can figure out how to do it. But if it continues to be a controversy then he'll stick with it, since distracting from the Epstein files and various other corruption is the top priority.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

This is unrelated but, that picture in the thumbnail, it has me giggling and I can't stop. Where do you get your nukes from? Mattel? It's fitting that Trump is playing with My First Fat Man, since that's what he gave to underage girls on Epstein's Island.

[–] Blumpkinhead@lemmy.world 13 points 11 hours ago

My non-nuanced opinion is that it's because his brain is tapioca pudding.

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 44 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

May be related to the release of some compromising files for Trump, I think I've heard someone called them Epsom or Upstin files idk

[–] Twig@sopuli.xyz 9 points 12 hours ago

Epson printers I think

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

It's the same reason Bezos and Musk had a dick measuring competition on Twitter by posting pictures of their phallus shaped rockets. Trump is a deeply flawed human, and this announcement is just more of the same.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 32 points 14 hours ago

Its because he has dementia and he thinks we're still in the cold war and he's loyal to Russia for all the loans they gave him.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 26 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's because removing the filibuster is called the nuclear option.

Yup, global super power in 2025 folks.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 16 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I hate to admit that you might be onto something. This is just like him thinking that "asylum" in regards to immigrants means mental institution.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

First time around it took about 2 months and everyone in the administration to get Trump to stop asking why he can't print money.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

He may be an idiot. Maybe.

I'm game for one more test. He can have a nice front row seat too. "BIGLY!"

[–] RaoulDuke85@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago

Imagine if he turned into the shit Hulk?

Except not even they have been doing it aside from Kim Jong Un. So just that guy. And even him not since 2017.

[–] rain_enjoyer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 12 hours ago

fuck me sideways i'm no one then i guess?

Is the United States about to start testing nuclear weapons again?

no

Recent comments by United States President Trump suggested that he is strongly considering testing nuclear warheads in response to real and perceived tests by other nuclear powers.

tl note: demented pedo in chief conflates nuclear delivery systems tests and nuclear warhead tests. this one in particular is about alleged tests of russian burevestnik nuclear powered subsonic nuclear armed cruise missile, seen by nobody, detected by nobody, other than announcements of russians only

it's a massively complex and expensive contraption, sold as russian wunderwaffe to unsuspecting public. with every new development like this, you have to wonder: did nobody did that before because it's really hard, or because it's really, really stupid?

it's definitely both, which also makes it entirely unnecessary. it's sold as a something to deliver nukes while avoiding american antiballistic missiles, and technically it's true, but pointless, because as subsonic missile it would be intercepted by regular air defense surface launched missile, which is much cheaper and widely distributed, as compared to antiballistic missile, which are horrifically expensive and won't work anyway. want to put nuke on enemy territory? we have a tool for that, it's called ICBM

but did nobody did that? also no. americans did that in 60s and discarded that idea, because ICBMs turned out to work better at lower price

but can trump do a nuclear test? also no, because while there are some designs from much later than nuclear tests moratorium, preparation would take something like three years.

as usual, in uncertain times you can count on nothing ever happens brigade

this news is also 2 weeks old at this point. perun has already covered it in an hour long video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0t8UYZ9rrQ

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

Because Russia and China were behind the US in Nuclear explosive research, so they want us to start testing so they can start testing and get caught up.

Given the disaster that President Pedophile's administration is for science in the US, they should pass us fairly quickly.

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

He's planning to go to war, duh. As soon as they're done consolidating power within the US, he's going to start invading other countries. It's so blatantly obvious

[–] Leonyx@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 13 hours ago

He's entering stages where he is probably hallucinating and making up just about anything to make these zany decisions.

This is why we should never, ever have old people in power. Cap it at 60 and no older.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Oh, it's quite clear. He needs something to distract from his numerous shortcomings and failures.

[–] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

What a useless headline. „No one knows why“? Doesn’t it say right there „in response to […] tests by other[s]“?

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

Crazy old maniac acts crazy old and maniacal but no one knows why? It's a mystery! Fuck.
