HistoryArtifacts

Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!

Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

pretty sure the only reason they got away with anything is because anyone who saw an adult human capering around in that silly shit would be struck down by uncontrollable laughter

I have to wonder what the chain of thought was to go from "I'm racist" to "Dress like a hobo clown"

I think Behind the Bastards did an episode on this. Basically it started out as a frat drinking event in the offices of one of the kids' fathers at night, and they decided to do some spooky shit and fuck with people while drunk so they made these costumes and rode horses up and down the streets of the town at night whooping and hollering, pretending to be the ghosts of fallen civil war soldiers or something to that effect.

After some time they built a reputation and pivoted and started doing worse shit.

As far as I can recollect, at least, don't quote me on it, but basically boiled down to drunk edgy teen incels in bumfuck nowhere after the civil war who decided to start a race war out of boredom and spite.

Hope for franchising a la McDonald's. They were just too ahead of their time.

But racism's back in fashion, baby! Ask Ye!

It says a lot about a group that has to hide behind some really stupid looking costumes to hide their identity because they know full well that the things they believe and say are completely wrong, unacceptable and won't be tolerated.

They know what they are doing is wrong so they feel the need to hide who they are.

They are cowardly to their own beliefs.

Because if they truly, honestly and passionately believed with all their being in what they thought and said ... they would never feel the need to hide who they were.

Well, there's also the fact that at the time, the Federal government was hunting down racist paramilitaries like the mad dogs they were

We should've never stopped, tbqh

they should make a statue of that hand and put it right there!

Or a sculpture on the opposite wall that's just plaster casts of hundreds of middle fingers forming one big middle finger, and they all represent a real person who flipped them off.

What a silly outfit. It kinda looks like some sort of Christmas decor + dunce cap

I like that in RDR2 there are zero consequences to killing Klanners that you find in the game world.

If that game were released today, it would get social media complaints about how it's woke killing the KKK.

I think it got complaints back in the day. And how there's a side quest where you can donate to suffragettes, iirc.

The only time that pathetic bag of dimwit a-holes ever amused me was in the following film scene...

O Brother Where Art Thou?

K, that’s literally a birthday party clown costume. How do these people take themselves seriously?

[–] Reality_Suit@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Every picture of racist or homophobic historical landmarks should include a hand flipping it off.

That Santa Clause is dreaming of a real white Christmas.
