The Devil's Advocate unit of the IDF repeatedly warned the higher-ups of the likelihood of an attack of the sort that occurred on Oct 7, including the approximate timing, but were ignored. I am sure no political considerations went into allowing Hamas to give the Israeli far-right a useful excuse to finish up their long-term goal of genociding Gaza.
