Its how some people meditate even if they aren't aware that's what they are doing.

ITT: People with legitimate reasons for long showers.

Me over here: Just because I want to. It feels good. I'm paying the bill and I'll stay in it as long as I'd like. I think, I daydream, I warm up on cold mornings, I cool off after long hot days, I listen to music or sing along while a warm rain dances its way to the drain. I can, and often do, shower and dress in 10 minutes, but I'm an adult damnit and if have the time and the desire I'm gonna hang out and sway gently while the steam fills the shower.

Fifteen year olds: Masturbating. Lots of masturbating.

Just living for fuck sake. I wash my hair and body, shave my face, use the hot water to relax my back, and I’m STILL DONE in 15 mins

Usually staring blankly at the wall, hoping the shower will somehow rinse some grime off my brain too.

When you have so much body hair it provides +5 light armor you take more time to dry.

It's not a fucking speedrun homie. This isn't shower any%. I'm usually listening to music and enjoying the hot water. Plus if it's a wash day, washing and conditioning long hair takes a while.

Relax into a brief, stressless, fugue state.

I'm dirty and must be scrubbed. Y'all who shower in sub 5 minutes discounting dress/undress times, how well do you actually clean yourself? Because I can't see more than a passing sigh. Get in, wet, shampoo, soap, scrub, rinse, condition, rinse, like unless you're just slipping soap on yourself instead of actually scrubbing I dunno how you could be in and out so quick.

Hey you let my poor adhd brain ruminate in scalding hot peace

[–] HurricaneLiz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When I was healthy but had butt-length hair and shaved and washed my face with separate soap it took me 45 mins.

When I was almost fully disabled, had short hair, didn't shave, and didn't wash my face it took me an hour an a half.

I'm doing much better now, have short hair, don't shave, and rarely wash my face and it takes 20 mins, but I hate it bc I can't stand up in there long enough to just enjoy the warm, gotta hurry and scrub and get out.

all of that in 10 feels like one of those white people things, no washing the lower part at all just relying on flow of water doing all the work.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like a skill issue because I clean all over

if the time between first undressing and dressing back up all dried is 10 mins total, no you're not, unless you're shaped like a billiard ball.

Trying to work up the nerve to turn the hot water off and step out into the cold air

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Space heater. Turn it on before you get in. Life changing. Like a poor man's heated floors.

Or, if you have a bathroom with a washer and dryer in it, throw your towel and clothes into the dryer. That way you hop out and immediately into a nice warm towel followed by warm clothes.

Alternatively, if you have old school radiator heating, just throw your towel/clothes on the radiator. Does the same thing, though it might be pretty hot when you get out depending on the climate that you live in.

Feeling the warmth return to my extremities.

[–] doobiedude@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Turn the shower on before I poop. Then after I can wash my butt. And use the rest of the hot water to relax the muscles in my neck and back.

Shampooing and conditioning my mid-back length hair, shaving my armpits and legs, exfoliating. I usually use 3 different skin cleansers on different parts of my body.

Some of us put in more effort than the bare minimum amount of hygiene because we want to look, smell, and feel good rather than simply “no longer nasty.”

Yeah, I never appreciated how long it takes to wash hair until I washed my daughter's shoulder-length hair. My hair has always been short, so a shampoo would only take 10-20 sec to get everything lathered and maybe 30 sec to rinse. My daughter's hair took about double that time for both steps.

So yeah, I can see dealing with long hair taking significantly longer. That said, that's more like 10-15 min instead of 5 min, not 30 min.

I can do it in 5 min but why? It’s relaxing. My brain can wander. It’s warm.

In my house the water pressure is low. Really low. Extra rinsing hair, scrubbing, and even then it still feels ineffective.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

I'm team quick shower or long bath (soaking my sore back is lovely). I had a roommate with undiagnosed narcolepsy that would fall asleep in the shower in college. She didn't lock the door and we had standing orders to just wake her up if we needed the shower.

My partner takes forever to brush out his lovely, long, curly hair. He also leaves a tribble and a half in the hair catcher.
