To implement his sweeping agenda, Zohran Mamdani will have to navigate the New York Police Department and its influential union.

in his victory speech he mentioned not necessarily working with them but working around them by changing the city's dependency in them through creating more mental health crisis response. He mentioned making cops more into mental health responders.

If not he can replace the NYPD chief with someone who will...

If the new one doesn't, just get a new new one

People think Dems can't do anything, because neoliberals lie about what they can do.

How is this even a question?

They do their job, or they get fired.

The police are a gang. They're the reason why local governments have no money throughout the country, they constantly demand more and more

In New York especially, the police are one of the bigger keys to power. There's like 30k of them, and if they're not kept in line they go feral

The police commissioner can be fired, but the police themselves? They tend to close ranks

It’s a valid question; they have a history of not working with mayors they don’t agree with, but yeah anyone who doesn’t want to work with him should be replaced.

Oh no, but then the police force could go on strike.

I would respond with okay you're fired and we are hiring a lot more people from the inner city to be on the force, but that's just me.
