Messed up teeth can wreak havoc on your health, they just make you constantly sick all the time. It sucks. If I ever get my teeth fixed and it involves removing a bunch of them I probably won't go this route, but I kinda get it. The dental equivalent of mounting your nemesis' head on a pike.

Bad teeth used to frequently kill people as little as a century ago.
I'm skeptical, but not willing to call this bullshit without doing some research. I'm also not working to do the research at this time
idk, I had a somewhat similar thing just a few weeks ago. Got really bad throat, ear and jaw pain on a monday, went to my GP on tuesday who said that it's just a really bad viral cold and gave me a sick note from work for a week. But just doing the kind of recovery that works for a cold didn't work, and the jaw pain kept getting worse, so I went to a dentist on friday and he immediately saw that it actually was a bacterial infection around one of my lower wisdom teeth. Gave me oral antibiotics plus topical antibiotics to inject under the skin flap around the tooth and I was feeling fine again within a day.
Idk I watched some documentary about human history. one thing I recall was that they talked about how people used to die a lot from dental issues. They had old like 5000 year old skulls and was pointing out how some teenager likely died from a bad molar due to the damage on the jaw.
They thing I remember mostly is that they said that modern dentistry had done more to extend human life span than general modern medicine. Because of teeth being so close to the brain, blood infections and abscesses could potentially get through the sinuses and kill people.
Wish I could remember the source material better.
It's possible it was from the PBS series "becoming human".
That's my best guess. But yeah. Dental stuff. Dangerous.
The upper teeth are solidly in the "danger triangle" of the face. If those get infected, there's basically just a highway to the brain.
Without dentistry, getting a cavity could easily lead to an infection, and without antibiotics, that could easily kill you.
People don't really realize how lucky we are with modern medicine. People used to die from all sorts of things we consider trivial today
It's such a fuckin crime that dentistry IS considered somehow separate from general modern medicine. Are teeth not part of our body?
Was the source a dentist by any chance?
That's metal.
Welp...that's enough Internet today.
