i know what you mean, but the israeli military has been able to defeat peer-ish opponents militarily.

this is not confirmed information, but i saw speculation that he was buried in a secret funeral and not even his family members were allowed to bury him. if it's true, it's probably to avoid any issues with isntreal and not being seen as "legitimizing" his actions.
