We need to stop calling it trickle down, and start refring to it by its original name, horse and sparrow.

As in the horse eats all the grain, ans the sparrow is forced to pick through its shit for the seeds.

I always call it piss down

Then they pee on our face

1% is way too generous.

Taylor Swift has a life style comparable to Liz Taylor or Frank Sinatra.

It's a tiny handful of people who are actually sucking up all the wealth.

[–] kurwa@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She's a billionaire??? 🤔

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

A quick search shows that Liz Taylor was worth about $600 million at the time of her death using the official inflation indicator.

Inflation of things like Beverly Hills houses has far outstripped the regular rate. A house she brought for less than $1 million would be ten or twenty times as much today.

That would not make her a billionaire. Plus, Taylor Swift is worth 2.1 billion dollars. That's nearly 4x as much.

According to this: https://www.investopedia.com/personal-finance/how-much-income-puts-you-top-1-5-10/

Top 1% in the U.S. is averaged at about half a million a year.

Top 0.1% is about $ 2.8 million.

In 2019 alone, Taylor Swift earned $ 185 million.

She is wayyyyy above 1% and even way above 0.1%.

I guess you know a lot more about Taylor Swift than I do.

[–] kurwa@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I knew she's a billionaire, the rest is on the Internet in front of you.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I knew she was a rich entertainer. I knew Elizabeth Taylor was a rich entertainer. Entertainers today have greater income than those of the past, and yet the life styles are roughly similar.

And yes, I have the whole internet before me. I chose not to learn all the details of Taylor Swift's life. Just because I can, doesn't mean I should.

If you really feel the need to do the research, find an entertainer whose worth and fame matches Elizabeth Taylor's. I will not stop you.

I think you meant wealth and not worth

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Monetary worth is a thing.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

that's wealth.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Swift is living below her means

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

It trickles down from the 0.01% to the 1% and stops there.

Trickle or treat!

[–] railcar@midwest.social 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

They trickle a little bit on cops and judges to keep us in line.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 6 points 4 months ago

A pathetically small amount. Motherfuckers are out there selling out the nation for five digits.

I ain't sayin' I ain't got a price - I'd like to think so, but I've also never been important enough to have been offered one. But goddamn, you would think these cheap bitches would demand a little more for selling themselves.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

They buy new truncheons?

Horse and Sparrow economics: the horse eats the food and the sparrow picks undigested seeds out of its poo

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's more trickle up economics, and it's becoming less of a trickle and more of a torrent lately.

[–] Capricorn_Geriatric@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

And then 1% of the money trickles down, before quickly rising back up.

[–] horn_e4_beaver@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 months ago

It just hasn't trickled down yet. Poke a few holes in a cistern and water will come flooding out.
