The political equivalent of a toddler tantrum.

Like punishing the people who WANT to leave that "socialist hellhole"... LoL clownworld

[–] tyranical_typhon@lemmings.world 21 points 15 hours ago

Rich people are seething that they couldn't get their puppet elected in a place that makes them so much money.

[–] papertowels@mander.xyz 34 points 18 hours ago

It's like a 5 year old mimicking his idiot dad. Would be adorable if it weren't real.

Wait. What? How does that even... I mean. Huh?

Republicans are the stupidest mother fuckers in the world.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

They don't have to be smart. They have the backing of the rich.

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 105 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Vibes-based policy. Republicans hate when people from blue states move to red states, even if they are republicans. They think they bring the liberal stink with them and fuck things up for everyone else.

They'll eat this up, regardless of how little sense it makes.

I mean we kinda do. I moved from a blue state to a red state and man; I didn’t realize how good I had it. Now I want to make things better here.

I have to imagine at least some republicans come to the same conclusion too.

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's what any demographic shift does. Wealthy republicans carpetbag on occasion too, though not as often. The problems of red states can largely be overcome with personal wealth, so they tend to stay where they're politically comfortable.

Another thing is that blue-staters tend to have more buying power than red-staters, so they get butthurt about being priced out of real estate instead of realizing that their relative poverty is the direct consequence of republican policy. 20 states still have a $7.25 minimum wage, guess which ones.

hand up, waiving it around

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 8 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

A common refrain I've heard from Republicans here is "Don't Commie-fornia my Arizona". I could absolutely see them trying to pass something similar.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 8 hours ago

"Don't Yank my Texas" or some shit will be their new slogan

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 8 points 19 hours ago

California should ban drinking bleach.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think it means Texans will have to purchase one whole New Yorker for each New Yorker who moves to Texas?

[–] riskable@programming.dev 26 points 1 day ago

Oh I'm sure there will be discounts of up to 3/5ths on certain classes of individuals.

Best I can figure out, is that it's a joke, but I'm not sure what the punchline is?

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I said tariff! Good day sir!

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 16 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

We hear b******* about how if New York raises taxes then some rich people are going to leave and that's supposed to hurt the city somehow. I don't understand that argument but people are making it and let's assume that they have some basis in reasoning to do so.

Except now he's going to make it more expensive for them to go to Texas. So they're more likely to stay in New York even if they're surrounded by socialists. Is that what he really wants to do? Because I think New Yorkers would like that, because then they can tax those rich m************.

[–] Quexotic 5 points 6 hours ago

You can turn of speech to text censorship. It made me a happier person. IIRC it's buried in the keyboard settings.

As for the threats of tariffing people? Pure nonsense. If he somehow finds a way, he probably opens himself up to litigation. I'd assume discrimination lawsuits or something like that, would ensue.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

Money-hoarders contribute next to nothing to their host communities, except cash payments to coke dealers and hookers. So if they go somewhere else, they'll be contributing next to nothing there instead. That's all.

And hasn't it been long decided in court that states can't impose taxes on people moving to the state, and can't impose discriminatory taxes on US citizens based on their state of origin?

[–] Canonical_Warlock@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

bullshit motherfuckers

You can swear on the internet. Especially on Lemmy. There is no algorithm and there are no advertizers here.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

Thank you, I figured out "motherfuckers" but couldn't figure out how "bitches" fit into that statement. I appreciate the clarification.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 12 hours ago

how dare you now I'm not going to all tell you about my products that you don't want to hear about at all.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 69 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What a stupid fuck he is. Let’s suppose that a wave of people do ‘flee’ New York if they elect Mandani…. Should Texas welcome them with open arms? They would be ‘his type’ of people? What a dumb fucking thing to say….. barring all the rest of the issues with something so dumb…..

If he was smart he would promise them a gun and unlimited medical debt and payment in oil credits or whatever MAGAt people like.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 2 points 39 minutes ago

"No, no, no! Do not come to Texas! Texas is full!"

Meanwhile, Texas:

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

Come to Texas! We love guns and hate brown people and reliable public utilities! Do you like water? Well so do our datacenters, but you might get some too!

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 67 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

It doesn't even make sense. He's just throwing around the word "tariff" because Republican dumbfucks don't know what it means but think it sounds harsh and Trumpy.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

MAGA politicians are just regurgitating SEO shit at this point

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Navy ordered 6 new 60mm guns to shoot tariffs at enemy aircraft.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 14 hours ago

Oooh, high caliber twrrifs!

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

I had sex with a MAGA lady and now I think I have a tariff on my cock.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff

A tariff or import tax is a duty imposed by a national government, customs territory, or supranational union on imports of goods and is paid by the importer.

Could be a slip that Texas is finally going to secede.

Or his head has seceded from reality, no one rly knows

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It will cost Texans twice as much to buy themselves a New Yorker?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 day ago

He's contracted Trump's tendency to string words together without regard to their meaning.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

He's a Republican. They all do it.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Popular MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman wrote on X: "Good! Now abolish property taxes for us that live here."

Take note: property taxes are part of the wealth taxes that people rightfully clamor for. Property tax is something you pay because of what you own, not what you earn.

If anything, property taxes should be progressive, with brackets, and there should be a progressive "stock ownership" tax, too. (Yes, there would be carve-outs for 401ks and IRAs and similar retirement investments.)

Twelve years later and oh how the turn tables

Gov. Rick Perry announced Monday that he’s hitting the airwaves in California to tout business opportunities in Texas and invite Californians to migrate.
