"influential"—his "influence" was war crimes. He was a war criminal vice president.

BREAKING NEWS

SATAN CALLS CABINET MEETING WITH LORDS OF HELL. FEARS OF COUP EVIDENT WITH PRESENCE OF KISSINGER. RECENT ARRIVAL OF CHENEY.

Many will forget that in the wake of Nixon's resignation, WH staffers Cheney and Roger Ailes decided that it was the fault of the "liberal Hollywood media" for relentlessly hammering the Republicans (for their crimes).

So they conceived a Conservative Propaganda Machine to get their message out. First they found Rush Limbaugh, and started to syndicate him across the country. Conservative talk radio was everywhere, but several limited by the Fairness Doctrine.

Reagan abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, and instantly radio stations across the country went to 24 hour conservative talk, with Limbaugh as the anchor.

In the early 90s, with Roger Ailes producing, they tried a 30 minute TV show, to run following the news, so conservative viewers didn't have to go from the news directly to a late night talk show bashing Republicans. It ran for about a year, but they quit because it too much for Rush to do a 3 hour live radio show, then a half hour live TV show, but it was proof of concept.

With that success, they launched Fox News in ~~1977~~ 1997, and that became the tentpole of the Conservative Propaganda Machine.

If they had a time machine the whole time why bother with all this?

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 minutes ago

Sorry, I meant 1997, but fat-fingered this new phone.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Hope all the people who died in the Iraq war do this to him in the afterlife.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 11 hours ago

It's times like this, that I really wish I believed in Hell. If it exists, he's having a very bad time right now.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 45 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

One of the chief architects of our current fascist state, only fighting against it when it became clear he was not going to be in charge of it. A vile person who exploited American grief in order to profiteer on the deaths of millions. Fuck him and good riddance.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

He didn't even "fight against it." His daughter, who is still a piece of shit, might have. Kind of.

Satan when he gets there:

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 49 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I haven't forgotten all the suffering this man caused. I hope he enjoys those flames in hell. I still can't believe he was an honored guest on the Dem national platform because Trump is evil. One less war criminal more to go.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 19 hours ago

I hope he enjoys those flames in hell

Wouldn't that be nice? If only...

If there is anyone who deserves to eternally burn in a perpetual form of suffering in an afterlife, its this piece of shit human being.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This should be news in Iraq.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 14 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 9 points 19 hours ago

You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good . . . [Dick Cheney] is dead. Good.

I always thought of him as the guy who destroyed Iraq so he could make money off of Halliburton rebuilding it.

Also, he shot his duck hunting buddy in the face.

Not a fascist though. He was certainly no friend to dictator Saddam.

[–] MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip 3 points 12 hours ago

How wonderful the times we live in are, that "at least he wasn't a fascist" is a meaningful qualifier.

This is a sad day. A war criminal died without ever having to pay for his crimes.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 14 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

This just doesn't have the same punch I was hoping it would when reading.

Needs a few dozen others in the obituary now.

When they committed their evil outside of the country on foreign soil where it didn't directly affect you

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

You are making an assumption on what is my country.
