So I went to look up the origin of the image in this macro and it turns out that almost this exact meme (unplayed Steam games) was like the first iteration of it in meme form, appearing only a hour after the original photo was posted to Reddit.

I was there when this post was made. Everyone was talking about how it was a great meme format. Them someone made a meme, and it was history.
This is why I stopped buying games. I still have a massive backlog (like everyone else) but it’s a list, not a Steam library.
Don’t get sucked in by Steam sales. You’re not saving money by buying games you’re never going to play!

My favourite Steam game is called "spending money unwisely". Ooh that dopamine hit when the "Thank you for your recent Steam purchase" message comes in" (chef's kiss).
Now I can buy all the profile background I want from the Points Shop! And then only use the one I've always been using for decades...

I did this with borderlands 3 way back when. Got it at half price but didn’t get round to it until a good year and half later. By then it was even cheaper than when I bought it.
Slowly realising the games will still be there, sale or not. Got to learn not to buy more until my weekly routine needs an addition that isn’t already in the backlog.
After all, why not? Why shouldn't I play Enter the Gungeon for the millionth time instead of Expedition 33 (which I've paid good money for)
Dude Expedition 33 is so worth it though. The story, that satisfaction of getting a fight smoothly, the world building. It all just works so well

I've gotten through 3 areas in Expedition 33. Then Silksong derailed E33 playtime. Then I started playing more and more of my little emulation console (Retroid Pocket 5) and I'm loving playing the old roguelites on that. I'll get back to E33..... soon™
I have a question for ya, I only means of playing any time soon is on a steam deck. is it the kind of game that I should play on lowish settings, or should I wait until some day when I have a PC
It's absolutely playable on the steam deck - beat the game that way with no regrets.
That said, do yourself a favor and lookup the graphics settings to use. By default, it uses a preset "Steamdeck" option with absolutely atrocious graphics - and completely unnecessarily! It can actually run the game at much higher settings with almost no FPS impact.
(I know people say that kind of thing all the time, but I'm telling ya, in this case it really is a night and day difference).
Will it be as nice as a gaming PC? Obviously not, but I was honestly really impressed with what it could do. The game is well optimized.
If you struggle to find settings, let me know, I can try to dig em up later.

I've not got a steam deck so I'm going off general knowledge here. I think it's a bit much for the thing. I know it runs because my friend is using it to play but he says the graphics definitely take a hit. The game probably uses a hidden ultra-low preset.
The nature of the game really begs for stable 60+fps and quick Google says it only hits 45 at most on steam deck. Probably why my friend is struggling.

They recently had an update and my potato PC that was struggling to play it on Linux suddenly was able to play it on low moderate settings.
I then bought a video card and it is smooth AF, but that was a long-planned purchase.

I still have ps2 games in my backlog (physical collection)… won’t even say how many ps3-5 games I’ve got sitting… but it’s a lot.
Replaying botw for the dozenth time tho, then probably horizon zero dawn, I only need to do the hardest mode on that and I’ll have done it on every difficulty to 100% at least once.
My low point was buying that Harry Potter game on release. Still haven't started it, don't even remember the name, I'm nearly 50 and really hate HP.
Hogwarts Legacy? It has great graphics, a really cool set, and fun gameplay, unfortunately the characters are morally deranged and the plot is not that great. And buying it gives money to a woman of questionable beliefs, I guess.
I pirated it and didn't complete it. The gameplay quickly devolved into the same three spells (even if they were called different things) and really boring open world mechanics. Those first few hours were fantastic, captured the wonder of hogwarts, then it got boring and bad real fast.

Yep that one. Bought it just to keep lightweight rpgs coming after Midnight Suns. I guess then bg3 happened. Thanks for the info. Should probably at least try it out someday since jk already got a hold of my pennies.
I'll play monster train till I die apparently I brought like 8 games during the last "steam sale" and old played 30mins of 4 of them but just keep booting up MT

I've pumped at least a few hours into at least 90% of the games I own, gave each entry a fair shake, and either moved on or come back to it now and again. Its the rare exception that the game is so up my alley I can pour endless hours into it without the experience getting boring.
I don't care about achievements or even completing it. I play games mainly to try out a new experience and get the brain working in different ways. Some of my favorite games I can pump many hours into and have completed, rougelikes especially are infinitely replayable. But others are once and done experiences I got my fill of over the course of a couple of hours and have no desire to come back to. Theres no shame in being the later.

BBC in the adult entertainment refers to a big black 🐓, hence the original joke on the "massive backlog" (log meaning penis I guess)
I immediately interpreted it as PM-speak for "technical debt." May have spent too long in software.
