Lol. This is a very AI-era Apple type of marketing fuck up.

Of course they’d rather not say they’re using a competitor’s superior model. Who would? But by attempting to conceal it they’re setting themselves up for yet another PR snafu undermining their expensive privacy brand.

Yes, model runs on Apple servers, Google doesn’t get the data, I understand. But “secretly using Google” will be the word on the street, especially considering most other big name products that paper over Gemini use the API directly. It’s also real hard to reverse an easy idea like that with the requisite subtleties about what a “model” is, where it’s hosted, how it “integrates” with “on-device inference” to maintain “E2EE,” blah blah.

So the story will just be “hey Siri” = “hey Google,” the primary antagonist they declared themselves an alternative to. And all that BS because they couldn’t just admit that their in-house software still sucked so they opted to buy someone else’s. /eyeroll

That doesn’t sound very secret 😆

Weird because Gemini scores the worst on my personal accuracy testing.

Same as Siri then

Same. Right now I rank it Claude, everything else except NaziAI, ChatGPT & Gemini, NaziAI.

I've found that IBM's Granite4 3b works the best for home assistant. Claude is my #1 for code generation.

Ooo, I haven't tried Granite4, I'll check it out.

Do you suspect your personal accuracy testing is a lot better than the global lmsys arena leaderboard?

[–] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

My tests are very basic, but covers a lot of things relevant to my personal life. Gemini failed to correctly respond to a single one of my tests.

Gemini struggled the most with false information. Both creating falsehoods and accepting them without question. The most difficult thing for most LLMs was responding "I don't know" or "that's not right". It is my firm belief that any lack of knowledge should be identified and handled by RAG.

Ugh. Linux Phone take me away!

I have had apple phones since the 3g. I tried android for a few years but found that everything I wanted Apple could provide.

After many years, the one and only thing they provide better than other phones is a home automation system that has the potential to not need internet. (Potential being that the home hub doesn’t NEED it) however the true result of that is not the same.

Now for the past 5 years I have been slowly incorporating Home Assistant. The true home smart system that needs no cloud.

This was the final piece for me. My contract is up, and I am looking for a new phone. I have a lot of research to do but I have a start with pine phone and a few others but it’s time to start sharing what people like so that we can all rally around the. Looking forward to learning about the next great Linus Phone!

I've never used Siri and never will

It’s shit. Always has been. And adding Google to it doesn’t suddenly make it ok.
