I presume that might be a regional thing, because I was taught in 8th grade US history class about some of the atrocious things we did to the natives. And to a lesser extent about what my state did specifically in the history class for my specific state.

Bruh, holy shit. I literally can't find anything that's not related to a game about that on a DDG search, even switching to different VPN countries. I did find a related MIT project and a single reference to a "still very classified" DOD project from 1958 I found in a buried log website, which pretty much sounds like what you said. Assuming this all isn't just game lore, wtf??? Not even a wiki page or stub?

LOL pretty much went the same path as you. Tried some other search engines (don't have a searxng one though). And it's only that IRC log. So, personally couldn't find any evidence. But also doesn't seem that important, since the concept appears to be the most important part.
