Let my suffering be your reasoning to thrive. Let it be today. Let this be your motivation. Clean, my sisters brothers and none of the above. Clean.

Last Sunday I felt something weird happening to me and out of sudden I cleaned this disgusting corner of my room, that was full of actual trash, I threw away so many things. There's still work to do in my dresser and then I'll start in the kitchen, but I'm happy I managed to do this one thing. Anyway, I wanted to share my small win and applaud you for yours. Truly, congrats.

I haven't used a cup/mug in about 6 months. I buy a coffee for $2, then refill that paper cup for a week u until it leaks from the seams. then I buy another one.

I also just eat out of the pan/pots now.. I'm a savage and stopped caring about things. sigh . sucks

[–] cartridgedream@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Same, did this last Sunday and I was super proud of myself for finally doing it

Fuck this hits hard

[–] araruna@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Not to dunk on your achievement or anything, but isn't that a toilet brush?

It's definitely sold as one here where I live...

Otherwise, congrats!

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

Any brush can be a toilet brush, you just need to stick it in the toilet. I have two, the second one looks like a dish brush but I got it because my main toilet brush doesn't reach everywhere at the bottom because it's too round/big.

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They also sell them for washing things like glasses or water bottles

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 10 hours ago

Yup. As a former bartender, I see a bottle brush.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Same, yep. Dishes put away and I fed myself? Winning! I even took the pup out and figured we should head out to the awesome dog park down the way —but that's when the car's head gasket blew. Should've stopped while I was winning. 😅🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

shit happens. hope you didn't blown a gasket as well

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

The older I get, the more Uncle Iroh gets me. 🤌🏼

ProTip: push your knee(s) against the sink for extra support. Initially you'll feel a little weird, but you won't care after your back stops hurting. You can also use this when brushing your teeth and washing your hands.

Source: Taught to me by a physiotherapist who specialises in pain management.

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pro pro tip: make sure the edge of the sink isn’t wet before you do that. Unless you like looking like you peed yourself.

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

There are water-proof aprons. Not a bad investment.

[–] dangrousperson@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

As a tall person, I really need to try that, thx. Hunching over doesn't bother me at all when washing hands or brushing my teeth, since that is only for a short while, but my back does start to hurt if there's a bit of dish washing to do

[–] Cantaloupe877@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Nicely done. It might feel small, however the lack of motivation is a bitch, and any progress on fighting that internal demon deserves some applause. If you keep it up, it'll get easier to do what has to be done.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Alright, fine, screw it. I'll organize my NAS finally. I'll create structure there or die trying

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm doing this right now, moving to a single volume Raidz2 has proven to be a game changer.

From experience though, however you organize it today, if you're like me you won't be happy with it next week.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

My problem is I just threw everything I had on it to backup everything. There's so many duplicate files. Just today cleaning up I got probably 200GB back.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 11 points 1 day ago

Wooo! I cleaned my sink on Friday too! But then I had company and might have broken my foot and it's back 😭

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's pretty demoralizing to see it full of dirty dishes again the next day, though.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I never had this problem when I lived alone but now it's a daily issue having my housemates leaving their shit from the night before in there. Living with other people is hell.

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

My housemates constantly leave their dishes on the table, despite me always asking them to rinse off the damn dishes and put them in the empty and open dishwasher. Sometimes they don't even eat what I make and have the gall to call it "yucky".

In case it's not obvious - these are my kids.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My housemates constantly leave their dishes on the table.

I'd almost prefer that. At least it'd be out of the way so I can wash mine. I don't care if they eat what I do or not. I just want to not have to deal with their shit being in the way all the time when I need to use the kitchen.

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In case it wasn't obvious (re-reading it now, I don't think it was....) - I was talking about my kids 😅

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Have you tried training them with a spray bottle?

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Oh shit yeah. Fuck all of that.

Then asking them to clean their dishes and having them argue with you...

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

It really is an accomplishment sometimes. Good job! Now i need to clean my kitchen...

[–] lemmy_acct_id_8647@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My kitchen just recently got clean....ish. It's clean relative to how it used to be but most would still likely look at it and be appalled. Which makes how proud I feel about my work tainted at best. But like, I should be proud, right?

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

You should be.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, but it's not pareidolia; I just talked to my wife beforehand.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Glad you conquered the rent issue I've seen been being posted about recently!

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I just bought a fancy mechanical keyboard from China. When I did my checkout the price went down when I changed my country from USA to Canada.

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Clean sink = happy kitchen

It's hard sometimes, just know that we're all here rooting for you brother.

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago

I don't even have to deal with any pain, just sweat, and I still struggle to do it even somewhat regularly..

I do have a dishwasher, so loading and unloading that is easy enough. Washing clothes.. already a bit more difficult because it requires a certain time investment.

Sweeping or mopping the floors? Cleaning dust off of shelves? Actually organizing my stuff? Impossible.
