Come on and slam! And welcome to the jam!

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 4 points 16 hours ago

All US benefits are the same - evil unless a specific conservative person needs them, then they are justified - see abortion, divorce, SNAP, welfare, healthcare, government loans, tax exemptions, etc.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Most empires start to collapse when they can’t or refuse to feed the poor.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 5 points 19 hours ago

It's cool, they will be the first empire to successfully kill all of their plebs once they replace them with AI.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 22 hours ago

Oh no, not slammed!

[–] nandeEbisu@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Isn't SNAP how we're buying a bunch of American produce that the rest of the world doesn't want anymore because of tariffs?

I thought it was a farm subsidy program first and a hunger program second.

[–] GaryGhost@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah yes, that will force us to make babies.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked.

welcome back, George carlin

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 6 points 1 day ago

Seriously? That's it! I'm not voting for him any more! said no one

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 91 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Republicans pulling the ladder up behind them is as old a tale as priests and altar boys.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

So, under 18 years old?

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hell, even if they haven't climbed the ladder yet they will kick it over if there is a chance that a black or trans person might be able to climb it too.

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

They love that too. But they do seriously enjoy using a system to better themselves just to make sure no one can do it after.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Just gonna pull this ladder up, there we go."

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Welcome to white minority rule. Freebies for the melanin-frees.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Eh lots of white people on SNAP.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world -4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yes. That’s the idea. White people get free things. Others, not so much.

MAGA have never really conceded the civil war. They want white supremacy.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

Snap cutoff is affecting white people on snap. Those white people don't get snap/free things.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 78 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah. But what people dont understand is that he personally doesn't need them now...

And if a conservative doesn't personally need something, they're literally incapable of understanding anyone else might still need it.

It was good when it benefited him, now it doesn't and he pays for it, so it's a bad thing.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The defining characteristic of these people is their utter lack of empathy.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which is also the definition of evil according to the persecutor at the Nuremberg trials.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yes. I'm very aware of the parallels.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That and a larger amygdala...

The brain can change well into your 60s, but the differences between conservative/liberal brain's is so obvious that with like 15 minutes of training anyone can correctly determine political leaning with around an 80% accuracy rate

Which sounds pretty accurate until you remember that ~30% don't vote...

And then it becomes freaky accurate.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

This reads like pseudoscience to me. Sounds like you're leaning on cultural touchstones to describe physiological differences.

And then it becomes freaky accurate.

Polling would be substantially more accurate if it was.

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Have any links, videos, ect I can check out that back up those claims?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ideological differences between partisans may reflect distinct neural processes, and they can predict who’s right and who’s left of center with 82.9 percent accuracy, outperforming the “your parents pick your party” model. It also out-predicts another neural model based on differences in brain structure, which distinguishes liberals from conservatives with 71.6 percent accuracy.

Nothing wrong with asking for a source, but it's a good habit to try yourself first. Especially with the lower activity in Lemmy.

[–] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The article you sent does not say that anyone can do it with 15 min. of training. It speaks of different levels of activity in different parts of the brain in an MRI scan. I myself do not have an MD, but I'm pretty sure reading an MRI to look at brain activity takes a little bit more effort.

I may have misinterpreted your previous message a bit as well, but as I understood it you implied that the way your amygdala is determines your political leanings. The article says it may be the other way around, like with London cab drivers having their brains change as they study the layout of the city. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you there.

Have a good day and thanks for sending this :)

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

I’m pretty sure reading an MRI to look at brain activity takes a little bit more effort.

It doesn't...

You point at the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala.

If one is big and the other small, that's enough to categorize.

I know most people aren't aware of it, but its not some super rare phenomena that only a single article has been written about it, and that article contains everything.

That's fundamental though, that applies to almost every time someone says something they know, then finds a relevant article off the first page of a search engine.

I didn't go thru my comment line by line and source every comment with an article that backs up everything I said.

Use some critical thinking

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

People seemingly have forgotten that at one point Vance would say "I never supported trumps policies. I never liked trump as a person. I'm a never trump guy."

Now, after he lost the campaign, being trumps vp is the best he can do. Suddenly he has no morals. He doesn't stand behind his words, because NOW it suits him to be a trump guy.

That should tell you everything you need to know.

[–] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Slammed? To shreds, you say?

Slammed is just behind "White House [emotion] About [latest bullshit the administration caused]" in the list of useless headlines designed to increase views.

[–] aGlassDarkly@piefed.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I keep waiting for the headline to be something like “Vance slammed face-first into the sidewalk by passersby until he stopped twitching,” but I’m always disappointed.

[–] Blumpkinhead@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

That's a little extreme. Let him twitch.

[–] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 16 points 1 day ago

Republicans only care about something when they NEED it. When they don't need it then no one else is allowed to have it either.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Ah the "Fuck you. I got mine." mentality. From a Republican. Didn't see that one coming.

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 8 points 1 day ago

Wow shocking, there's tons of farmers who get millions of dollars from the government and vote against anyone else having any sort of assistance available to them, so this kind of rural bullshittery has been around quite a while.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

After these scum get a hand up they shit on every one below.

There was a federal court ruling subsequent to the publication of the submitted article, so they should be moving, albeit with some delay. It's not clear whether they will be paid in full for the month, though.

Government shutdown live updates; Bessent says food benefits could flow by Wednesday

The payments appeared set to stop at the beginning of November, as the shutdown has stretched into a new week. But federal judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island ruled Oct. 31 that the U.S. Department of Agriculture needs to use $5.25 billion in contingency funds to make at least partial payments.

Both judges said the Trump administration has the option to use certain discretionary money to provide the benefits in full for November. They gave the administration a limited number of days to provide an update on what it's doing.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that President Donald Trump wants to hear from the courts about how to legally move money around to fund SNAP payments, but he noted during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" that it "could" flow by Wednesday.

"There's a process that has to be followed," Bessent said. "So, we've got to figure out what the process is."

The Cabinet secretary also told the outlet that the Trump administration will not appeal the rulings.
