The sacrifices are not the insane amounts of defense spending and fossil fuel subsidies I assume.

Exactly. Everyone always yammering on about how Canada Post isn’t profitable. Are police forces profitable? Is road infrastructure profitable??Those questions are never asked.
Right???? Our geography dictates that there is no way to both be profitable and ensure that all areas of the country have access to mail service, which remains how much government correspondence is handled.
All physical government correspondence should go through Canada Post/Expresspost. Amazon/UPS anything American should be banned from all levels of Canadian government.
Agreed. By much correspondence, I was referring to how there are still some services that have not migrated to digital alternatives.
Mail should be considered a utility like electricity and access to potable water. It shouldn't be restricted to profitable areas.

Sacfrices is politcal speak for austerity. Who pays the price? The plebs. The government can never ask the richies or the corpos to shpulder the burden. Those parasites are job creators.
And just carefully structure laws and regulations so companies can continue to abuse foreign workers, to erode the fabric of our country.
I've scaled back my discretionary spending so much. I don't go out half as much as I used to. I don't spend at restaurants nearly as much. Cut back on subscriptions everywhere. Vacations? Maybe once a year now, and they've been more locally focused. Really focused on the basics and savings. Not sure what else there is to "do less" with after that. Is he talking about housing and food? :/

Maybe it's just me but I don't get what 'those tough choices" will be Canadians could soon face. The report discusses mostly the use of the word "sacrifice" by Carney and others, while only one expert makes a very rough guess what that could be in just one sentence at the end of the article.
I suspect that they'll lower the wages and expense allowances for MPs. Haha jk.
This is a story in a theme of stories that's been developing since we elected this government. Not every story has all the detail that's been shared in the theme so far. Carney's asked almost all departments of government to find 15% of cuts. Given how underfunded and understaffed lots of then are, the impmications of that have been discussed before and the consensus is that it would lead to significant harm to many Canadians, especially more vulnerable people. For example, already the staffing shortages in the CRA are causing people hours in wait to sort their tax returns when something goes wrong. VIA rail service is bad and it's gonna get worse and more expensive. Etc.
Western Canada: "You have VIA rail service?"
Western-er Canada: "your tracks are in trainworthy condition?"

This is mostly another pre-budget statement to try and reduce the level of shocked surprise when we see the actual budget.
