The goal of every smuggie I make is to ruin a conversation by representing someone else as the screaming soy virgin, so yes, people make this argument.
It's ever present in french circles where the radical left political leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon is regularly accused of being a fake leftist because… he owns a flat worth a million. He's not particularly wealthy mind you, just has a flat in which he lives. Somehow it's his fault that the price of flats quintupled in Paris.
It's actually been used quite recently in american circles too, with Cuomo accusing Mamdani of being a fake socialist because he is nt poor if I remember correctly from this uh… mpreg AI generated animation that he shared.

No the iPhone generally. I'm not aware of arm being inspired by star trek.
I see it sometimes on lemmy. Someone will say something mild like “the minimum wage should be raised” and will be vehemently rebuffed with “You should be dismantling capitalism if you really cared!” Or “This police brutality is unacceptable.” with “If it was really unacceptable you’d be out there using your 2A rights to make a real difference!”
Public opinion isn’t with them, but they exist. To some people anyone not as extreme as them is the enemy.
