STV is undersrandably a desirable alternative to what we have in Canada. Distrust in the voting system is a major contributor to political apathy here, and people spend way too much time and energy constructing that as Canada's primary problem. Its important to remember that this would help, but wouldn't solve our problems or actually represent everyone.
The Dáil Éireann and Australian Senate both use this system, and their parties are certainly more diverse than what we see in Canada, but they're still largely dominated by neoliberals and conservatives the same as here. Plus, it has already existed in Alberta and Manitoba (though I don't know enough about that history to try to say how it turned out). Edit: Apparently, it was also allowed in municipal elections in Ontario between 2016 and 2020, before it was repealed by the Ford govt.
This would help, but we have to accept that our voting system is a symptom of dysfunction and not the cause. Most Canadians subscribe to settler-colonial and capitalist values, and that means most Canadians are not going to be receptive to the change we need. Ration your energy accordingly.
