This is a classic meme by (I think) schweinhund89 on reddit. iirc later it was commented that though the image was over 10 years old, it was still mostly true.

As always with these kinds of memes,

Not one mention of my favorite industrial band (KMFDM) on the entire meme leaves me wondering if I am a true oldhead and didn't know it, or if I'm a poser and didn't know it.

Pretty sure I had this same conversion regarding Powerwolf on the "metalhead" version of this

Even KMFDM think that KMFDM sucks πŸ˜‰

Are KMFDM the ones that smoke and drink? Sounds like a bad influence to me!

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 5 days ago

Yes, and all other bands stink

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I too liked "kill motherfucking depeche mode" (KMFDM). Rammstein is basically them, but newer. I'm sure KMFDM Was a major influence.

I feel like I fit the last one, someone who actually likes industrial.

You'd at least think KMFDM would get mentioned in the giant band name dropping in that last panel. Also, KMFDM is my favorite industrial band as well o/

I like NiN more than industrial as a category. Catchy songs, and groovy. Drug against war is their "hit". Kunst is better, but so mean to depeche mode. Megalomaiac, krank is ok. Amnesia only pop hook, but chorus is meh. They've got their own sound for sure... juke joint jezebel excepted. Anyways, there are 20 NiN songs better than anything KMFDM ever released.

Bottom left beat me to it. That said, I like music that I like. I've never understood putting things in boxes or purists. I have played shows with one band listed in the image and seen many of the others in my younger days.

Name dropping Foetus and an Einstur shirt. It gets an upvote. Jeez I’m old.

Ha I knew I wouldn't be in this list because these days I'm more into IDM, ambient, dark ambient, experimental..

EDIT: Oh God they've even got an Aphex Twin shirt

I really love memes about music genres I know nothing about!

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh damn, can you make the bottom right dude a little bigger? I wanted to hear all the ones he listed...

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

It's an ancient meme so there are multiple copies floating around. Highest quality seems to be

Looks like it says:

Laibach, Current 93, Raymond Watts, Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Klinik, Boyd Rice, Snog, Meat Beat Manifesto,

and the last one I can't make out but it looks like it starts with a P and a T

[–] mossberg590@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

No mention of Machines of Loving Grace? Gravity Kills? Ministry?

[–] state_electrician@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So wie der eine von den Krupps, wie hieß er noch?

Nitzer Ebb are still going, but not the same without Doug McCarthy IMHO.

I actually like Industrial.
