Maga was never the audience. Sure some watched it ironically like they did star trek. While learning nothing. Who, like trek has always been political. But name a more iconic duo than Disney wanting to control an IP without caring to understand it.

List of Best Rated TV Series as voted by the Fediverse
I think it's less control than it was just abandonment. The idea was to ever expand and when Bob Iger returned he told everyone to hold back and rethink, which from a Disney standpoint was correct.
Disney wasn't really invested in Doctor Who at that point, but if it worked out then hey, "free money". I do think with US politics going the way it has Disney has generally taken a more "conservative" approach. It's cowardly, but profitable.
I don't know of Disney funding Doctor Who was the right direction. I think the additional funding gave us fun higher budget episodes. Did the show need it? Probably not. But was it fun, absolutely.
Control always remained with the BBC. Disney has a massive M&A deal with the NFL that they need administration approval for.
honestly just get rid of RTD. I mean yes, his first run with the show was amazing but his second run has just been...oof. Or bring my Moffat
Or bring my Moffat
Now there is a controversial take that I completely agree with. For some reason people like to shit on Moffat, which at times is understandable, but I still think we got some of the best stories under his run.
Similarly for RTD, I think he did a great job, although I won't understand the rushed ending of the most recent season, even before the tacked on regeneration (unless they rewrite the ending too).
We had RTD, we had Moffat, we tried Chibnall (who I'll give more credit in hindsight), we went back to RTD, I say back to Moffat. Or let them team up and bring in someone new to run it in the long term.
i like rtd and loved the last two series but if he's gonna go then they should let rachel talalay be in charge
