the only thing i hate about this is there's no chance for jonathan groff/rogue to come back :(

but anyway FUCK disney and fuck any attempts to americanise doctor who

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Why not? River Song met the 10th, 11th & 12th Doctor.

I expect the new show runner (I'm speculating a new show runner) won't want to utilize characters they didn't create, but who knows. Or maybe he'll make an appearance in the holiday special (and Ncuti will pop back in as well).

i was mostly just thinking because groff was there most likely because of the money disney put behind it though since i'm sure he's expensive :(

Yeah how does this work because they showed him regenerated already??

You'd think they learned their lesson when Starz did it to Torchwood. It strips out a lot of the charm.

That was RTD’s brief Californian adventure before he had to move back to Britain.

[–] Slysilverat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago

As an american, I agree.

At this point, I wish BBC was willing to open up its iPlayer service to international, non-UK taxpayers who are willing to pay a monthly fee to use the service. Then they wouldn't need to find a new network and would make more money.

They did. It ran in several countries but it failed when it tried to enter the US market because the BBC’s US customers such as ABC and AMC threatened to stop buying their shows if they opened a rival.

Then years later the BBC bought out ITV’s stake in BritBox outside the UK.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 6 days ago

Oh no, please don’t go.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago

Glad that lingering question was answered sooner rather than later. Hopefully this means a quicker turnaround for the next season now, though I figure it'll still take some time.

Honestly it's Disney, hated BUT I'm still sad that DR Who needs to find a new home!

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago

No it doesn't. It's still on the beeb

I mean. If it's Disney that gets the rights, as implied by the title, it's uh... not going to get better.

If it's the BBC that retains rights, then ... well, better than Disney, but that's a low bar!

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 17 points 6 days ago

I mean. If it’s Disney that gets the rights, as implied by the title

Not sure how you're getting that from the title, but reading the article clarifies that's not the case at all. Also, not sure who you expect to be producing Dr. Who other than the BBC after 60+ years of doing so.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

nah, disney are fucking off. Their chief complaint seems to be that locking down viewing of doctor who didn't give them the membership boost they wanted.

that's because fuck disney we all pirated it

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I was pirating it before it was cool. I also bought the first 9 seasons of the 2005 show. IDK why Disney decided to start their seasons from 1. There wasn't a decade+ gap in seasons.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago

because they wanted it to look like they owned it.

If they don't have a mouse-themed villain in the next series, I'll be disappointed.

(I realise there are currently no plans for a next series, but I have faith.)

Wonder Woman is currently doing this and it's kind of brilliant:

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don’t remember this part of Redwall

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do you read paper or digital? And if digital, where do you get them?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

For comics it's all print from my local shop unless I need to share images online.

[–] hotdogcharmer@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wait so I won't get Chris Pratt in my Doctor Who? :(

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Why would you want a MAGA prick in DW?

[–] hotdogcharmer@lemmy.zip 13 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I was being sarcastic, although to be fair that absolutely does not come across in the text. I didn't know Pratt was MAGA though, I just think he's shit.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 5 points 6 days ago

"I just think he's shit"

[–] classic@fedia.io 6 points 6 days ago

I appreciated the comment. The sarcasm came through

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 3 points 6 days ago

Ah, yeah, I completely missed the sarcasm.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

🤞 Please let us finally have Jeremy Clarkson as Doctor Who.

nigel farage guest stars on doctor who just to get blown up by a dalek.

[–] shyguyblue@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Oh no, you mean we won't get to see what happened to the space babies!? /S

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wow, I thought they were going to wait until they saw how War did before announcing anything... someone must have had a sneak peek or something...

[–] blueamigafan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Disney is cancelling loads at the moment, they even cancelled a new animated Mickey cartoon, if their mascot can't get a series doesn't boad well for a lot of stuff

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Disney only agreed to Who because BBC Studios made it a package with Bluey.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Aha, I thought it was part of their continuing sinister plot to own my entire childhood.
