tl;dr: nsf requested that python software foundation affirms that they “do not, and will not during the term of this financial assistance award, operate any programs that advance or promote DEI, or discriminatory equity ideology in violation of Federal anti-discrimination laws”.

the psf has withdrawn the proposal instead.

Given the amount of Python in AI tooling and the number of AI true believers with distinctly anti-“woke” views, this will surely cause a lot of unpleasant dudes a lot of anguish.

fuck 'em. They can go implement their bullshit in Ruby on Rails

But first they will have to install Omarchy ;)

[–] istewart@awful.systems 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Omarchy apparently doesn't include Ruby or Rails by default

I know, it was part of the joke for the people who read that post, prob should have linked to the post. But didn't have it handy just now. I'll edit it in.

I’m not really sure how far that’ll go, tbh. a couple of dipshits will gripe on the orange site but I can’t see this becoming any real kind of wailing flashpoint - largely because I don’t think that most of those clowns even have any idea that the psf exists and even less what it is they do

I deeply appreciate that PSF is keeping to their values on this. It must have been an extremely difficult decision but I think it is the right one.

As a daily python user of about 20 years, this has prompted me to to do something I should have done long ago; join PSF and see what I can do to help.

Honestly I'm not even sure it was necessarily a difficult decision. A painful one, perhaps, but I can see that, for the right kind of people, it would also be an obvious and easy one.

I checked their donation page, and like they actually give warnings on how to get around some paypal shit down the page.

Important: Make sure "Purchase Protection" is turned OFF before completing your donation—this prevents PayPal from creating an account for you

It does however require either paypal or a credit card. So good I had not gotten rid of the latter yet.
