Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Peter Kay: I'M READY BRING THE TRAIN ON!
It's busted FYI. Link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynM_J9FR7Zc
Hmm, had to watch it, seems like they are completely missing the point of measuring the air movements at the end of the train as shown in their schematics in the beginning. And they had their anemometers parallel to the track only. Wth? And of course the flat end will show shit values as the flow is much less laminar. It seems to me it's even more dangerous if you get pushed when the train comes in because by reflex you will readjust your position pushing your body towards the train, and if there is any suck off effect at the end of the train, your chance to tipp over are probably quite high. Depending on the speed of the train and it length of course, which determine the push-then-pull effect.
Wow I can't even get sucked off by a train :(
but you'll still get busted
Well, LORD SMEGMA, I think we all know why that is.
Yeah stop molesting the trains.
You can watch pretty much every episode of Mythbusters on YouTube, BTW. It's pretty cool.
Except somehow who ever edited the clips did an infinitely worse job than just freaking cutting out the commercials from the old broadcasts.
Did they? It was my impression that the weird and annoying jumping around topics IS how they were broadcast, which isn't exactly unusual, either.
I desperately hope they either trained the monkey editing their clips or got a new one, but for a time, they'd have videos that only had the first half of what was in the title, or say, "all of episode 30" and it'd be 12 minutes long, etc. It's like they fed their episodes in to a shitty AI to edit things together.
Weird, I've never seen anything like that when I binged it one or two years ago. There might be multiple YouTube channels that have these episodes? Even when I watched it, the seasons weren't all on the same channel.
I don't remember which channel it was, but they seemed official? Like it was a very plain channel name with no extras, like MythBusters, or maybe with a space in there and that was it. Either way, they had a stint in there where the videos were terribly cut, so I noped out... I still have the series saved off elsewhere, so no need for a shitty youtube channel if I need to binge some sane TV.
When it comes to really old TV I like it better when they leave the ads in. It's a little time capsule.
the full episodes on the official mythbusters yt channel is from master; not broadcast recordings
(ie the source material that they use to produce DVDs and the footage they send to TV networks)
I sure hope it does
Sheesh, the platform could at least buy me dinner first
Of course not.
Source: lived close to the tracks...
How fucking close to the tracks did you live??
1 centimeter
Glory ~~Hole~~ Platform
If the ISS goes right over you you can be sucked off into space.
