Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!

Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Question:

using current minimum wages, how much would ot cost to run that ship per km.

Trieme crew: Approx 200 Trieme speed: Approx 10 km/h Greece minimum wage: About 5€/hour

so a Km would take 6mimutes, so half a euro per crew so about 100€ per km.

Given how strenuous it is to row a trieme, I imagine they would have to pay way more than minimum wage.

anyone knows how it compares when a modern similar sized ship?

I used minimum wage, because even with slaves, you will have to pay to feed and house them. and doing will cost. instead of estimating the cost of maintaining a slave, I used minimum wage given that it should be enough to feed/maintain them. and damn, 5euro per hour is so little for such a hard work, it might as well be slavery.

Where are the arches, spears and the fire box on top of it?

Playing the original Civilization in an 8th grade geography elective, me and my partner were laughing seeing a trireme from one of the computer civilizations next to our cruiser. Then the trireme sank our cruiser.

The lower picture shows that they lack a bit of training. I remember how hard it was to properly row an octuple scull. Getting a hundred+ people rowing in sync needs a shipload of discipline...

I feel like this should have the full crew of each represented so that we know how many people it takes to handle each in a combat situation.

I want to see a port city, as a marketing stunt, replace all its tug boats with triremes.

we should make navy ships that can ram each other. way more fun
