I love me some old school Jon, but he needs to step it up a bit.

I feel like he has less control in writing overall compared to before he left the show. There's also less direct calling out bullshit.
But there have been some creative episodes. The one where he plays the role of subjugated jester with Trump as the hypothetical monarch (with the set in all gold) was interesting at least, and something different. He's no Colbert when it comes to playing a role (whose talents are largely wasted on the late show) but it was a decent effort.
Theman is tired. He's given us so much.
His podcast, The Weekly Show is really good.
He has some amazing guests
I think Josh Johnson would be a great host to take over when Jon Stewart has had enough.
I'd prefer Desi Lydic, but I also like the format of rotating hosts. Not only does each bring something different, they all also have time to do other good work in different formats.
Presumably the rotating host format stuck because Trevor wanted to leave for more freedom. When Jon went on Trevor's podcast they both discussing how soul sucking the job can be.
As much as I love Josh, I don't want to see doing the Daily Show full-time to cut into his standup career.
Agreed. Post COVID it was clear Trevor Noah wanted a little more freedom (schedule wise) and was part of the reason he left. Similarly Taylor Tomlinson chose not to continue her show in order to focus on her stand-up.
I'm a big fan of Josh, but I don't want to see him give up stand-up. Maybe someday.
I enjoy Josh's beginning segments and how he delivers the bits. I think his interviewing skills have opportunity for improvement. Some of the hosts are better interviewers.
That’s kind of how I feel about all the guest hosts, they’re awesome at the opening segments, but not great interviewers. Ronnie Chieng’s interviews need the most work and Jordan Klepper’s are pretty solid, but they all need improvement. Nobody comes close to Jon Stewart’s interview skills. In terms of raw natural talent, I’m super impressed by Josh Johnson. I think with some more practice he’d be perfect.
I really like the rotating hosts though, I think they should stick with that.
Maybe him and Desi. Cohosting or trading off.
I only watch his episodes. I tried the other hosts, but...
Maybe it's because Jon and I are the same age, so I get him.
Jordan Klepper was pretty awesome, but it seems that he’s moved on
He last hosted about a month ago and has been in a few sketches/special reports so he's definitely around. I assume he's been filming at things like the No Kings protest for a special segment. I bet he'll host again sometime next month.
