That would mean CEOs would share the benefits of automation with employees. They won't. They'll cut 60% of staff and work that 40% full time or more.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They'll work only 20% staff on hefty overtime till breakdown.

and nobody but 10 white guys would be able to afford food

What if we just ate those 10 white guys?

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 15 points 1 week ago

10 white guys

NO WAR BUT CLASS WAR

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah yes only rich white guys are the problem and billionaires with other skin color are all benevolent.

[–] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Genuinely asking because I can’t think of any what billionaires aren’t white?

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 12 points 1 week ago

The main point is that we shouldn't let race divide us in a class war.

Nvidia's CEO is definitely in the top ten. Also, there's a reason Kushner is going to the ~~Iranians~~ Saudis to buy EA.

[–] galaxy_nova@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Ah can’t believe I forgot about Jensen

Come now, you can be a subsistence tech worker!

[–] AAA@feddit.org 52 points 1 week ago (4 children)

The formerly richest man on the planet believes capitalism will pass the benefits of AI to all of us.

Ha ha

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 8 points 1 week ago

I remember when Democrats had almost everyone convinced that he was an example of a good billionaire.

How are these people so fucking out of touch? Or are they just lying?

2 options,

A) they are intentionally making shit up because it makes them rich.

B) investors prop up delusional idiots who say shit like that for profit

not much difference in either case

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 33 points 1 week ago

You’ll also receive two days of pay per week.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yes. Two days per job, three jobs per week to barely survive.

God, he's such a fucking idiot.

[–] galoisghost@aussie.zone 39 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think you mean “God, 27% of his wealth is still invested in a company that is all in on AI and he needs to offload it before the bubble pops”. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bill-gates-most-48-billion-190902092.html

Keyes believed we'd have a 15 hour week by now. These things are not predictable

Hundreds of years ago we toiled in fields for 8+hrs to feed the family and keep a roof over our heads.. since then, with all the technology and advancements to make our lives easier, we still work 8+hrs a day to feed the family and keep a roof over our heads.. I doubt his claims

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Just add some cash to the AI, please bro. It will give you a 2 day workweek bro, I swear. It will bring back your loved ones bro. Just add the cash bro.

In an ideal world, yes. Under Capitalism, no.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bill Gates is Trump's little bitch. He doesn't care about any of us any more than Elon or Trump himself.

AI will replace Jobs

Could be, but I thought Jobs has died?

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 23 points 1 week ago

Two days at the 1st job, two days at the 2nd job, and 2 days at the 3rd job.

[–] nettie@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I get really sick of rich people promising their latest product will mean 4/3/2 day working weeks, and when others parrot this nonsense I just despair.

Leaving aside the dispute over "AI" and it's actual effect on efficiency...

If efficiency savings were all that was needed we would already be there. There's been hundreds of such advances. But all that happens is the wealthy get more wealth. They will always find work for us in those "saved days", and will increase our costs until we have to work those days to survive.

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Exactly. A reduced work week is a social policy, meaning we'll only achieve it through focused political action.

But sadly there's no labor party in the US, and the parties we do have are both aggressively hostile to any sort of workplace reforms, so... yeah

2 day work week....for C-Suite.

[–] Quexotic 12 points 1 week ago

That's their schedule now...

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

🙄

CEOs lost their mind at the proposition of the 4 day work week.

They want us poor and starving and unemployed and racist so we are at each others’ throats instead of theirs.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 week ago

So now it's "AI" that should allow us to profit from the efficiency increases you assholes actively siphoned off for yourself for decades??

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

It's just to sell his AI crap. It's like saying AI will save humanity or something, it's just a money/power grab.

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago

no, it'll lead to a 50 hour work week for two days pay.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

Why would they have the same number of employees working a 2 day work week instead of having 20% of their workforce working a 5 day work week?

People that think AI will replace most people's jobs are people that don't actually work for a living. Managers, CEOs etc. They see AI taking notes in meetings and spewing out bullshit emails and think "wow AI can do people's jobs!" No, AI can do your job. And yeah, we probably can cut down on management jobs already. But who's going to make that decision?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

And I predicted that Bill Gates is a sack of shit.

I was right, he was wrong

So far it has led to many people being laid off. Meanwhile Greece just pushed for 6 day working weeks with 13 hour work days, was it?

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

yes, two 48-hour shifts

do people really think working less is possible under capitalism nowadays?

A 2-day workweek for whom?

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Let's all just pretend Bill didn't repeatedly hang with Epstein after he was convicted.

[–] dogs0n@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

I want to work less, yes, but we all know he's saying this just to manipulate us into interacting, supporting and using AI more.. probably to boost his networth or something dumb like that.

[–] vateso5074@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Even if that were true, what he really means is that 2 out of 5 people will have a full work week, doing more work for no increase in pay, while the remaining 3 people lose their jobs.

Two day work week with no pay increase and no social net

Meaning your take home pay will be 2/5ths of what it is now.

...for shareholders and billionaires.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I predict Bill Gates will be dead before we have two day workweeks.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

2 days of nothing but eating the rich sounds nice.
