Catan has no story as far as i remember so it’d probably be like dnd. Random stories set in the world. So you could take any proven story arc and just repurpose them for Catan.

Maybe they can get Jared Leto to star. Ohh, and JJ Abrams to write the script.

The actual fans ofcthe board game isn't a big enough market to justify the expense, so the movie will need to be modified to appeal to a new audience.
