If we're going down this rabbit hole, shoes with lights is pretty far down on the list of child-oriented products that should be made for adults.

Other potential entries include:

  • Clothes with dinosaur/unicorn/etc designs
  • Bouncy castles
  • Bedding and sheets with fun prints
  • ~~Inflatable dinosaur costumes~~ (we figured this one out already)
[–] scytale@piefed.zip 15 points 2 weeks ago

But you can get most of those things already. Shirts can be ordered with custom prints. You can rent (or buy) a bouncy castle and put it in your backyard. Beddings and sheets I get, because you can probably only find them in twin sizes.

Light-up shoes in adult sizes on the other hand are nearly impossible to find, or are pretty expensive if you find one.

[–] phonics@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Saw a kids sweater with a fuzzy dinosaur on it recently. Thought it would be amazing as an adult sweater. But of course it would cost $400 if it existed

Clothes with dinosaur/unicorn/etc designs

What do you mean?

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Snow boots that change color in the cold. I had those as a toddler and they were the coolest things ever.

[–] miked@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

I've been in a bouncy castle with kids and alone. It sucked and I was very tired.

Maybe if there were some full-size humans bouncing they would bounce me around too instead of me launching kids onto the roof.

Bedding and sheets with fun prints

  • Technically there's no one and nothing stopping you from buying Pokemon bedding, for example.

Clothes with dinosaur/unicorn/etc designs

  • Also, cute clothes have been trendy since MLP:FiM at the earliest.
[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do they sell Pokémon bedding in king?

[–] DFX4509B_2@lemmy.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Haven't bothered to look, they sell it in full-sized though.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There was an art show that had a bouncy castle for adults. I think that's a thing

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

It is, there used to be a place around me that catered to adults for bouncy inflatable things.

$10 and some mushrooms and it was an amazing time.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m very interested in where you are sourcing this list!

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

I have two children and very few inhibitions.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 41 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm going with "no", because it's a shit product for the environment when you have batteries and electronics fitted into rubber. If the battery runs out, the electronic breaks or the rubber wears out, the entire product is likely to be discarded and burned together.

If you want to attach small lights to your shoes, go ahead. You can then also transfer the lights to your next pair of shoes, change the battery and repair or discard of everything separately.

[–] jim3692@discuss.online 8 points 2 weeks ago

There is an easy solution to that. The internal pad, where the toe sits on, could be removable. This way, both the battery can be replaceable, and the electronics board.

Another idea, could be to implement wireless charging for the lights, since it's not easy to fit a charging port on a shoe.

[–] Bruncvik@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I don't have light-up shoes, but I have lights for when I go for a run in the dark. They use a floating magnet that creates small electrical charges, strong enough to make a pair of LEDs flash, with every step. Installing those inside shoes would be a good idea.

This could satisfy environmental concerns, but I personally am not sold on the comfort angle of the solution.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago

Only if we get the built in inline roller skates, too

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 23 points 2 weeks ago

Police departments should make it part of the uniform. Because when a foot pursuit ensues, they are flashing red & blue on their own heels.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

Like 12 years ago a guy i knew from the edm scene in socal created exactly that with his company called electric styles and he’s still doing it.

Looks like they’re also on amazon, ebay etc

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

I was at a music festival about a week ago and there were several dozen people wearing these, they were kick ass

[–] miked@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago
[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Only $35 is a bargain for those shoes so there must be a catch. For reference, I went to Burger King with my wife for lunch last week and it was $35 for just our two meals.

Yes. Full stop.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 9 points 2 weeks ago

Do adults buy them in sufficient quantities to justify producing them?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

Yes. And we should have Heelies and soap shoes, too!

[–] lol_idk@piefed.social 7 points 2 weeks ago

Even more fun with knee high stockings, a short skirt, and a bikini top. Better if you identify as cis male

[–] wesker@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Not sure if they still do, but they did at one point. LA Gear "Lights".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKUGNeZt63o

Needless to say like any gimmick, they died off fairly quickly.

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I remember a few reports of "criminals" having them on and trying to run away from the police. Might have been on "Cops" once or twice, even.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

They were in an X-Files episode where someone was robbed/killed for them. S6E10, "Tithonus". But, yeah, fad didn't last long because they quickly became a bit of a "what a loser" item, even for us that were kids at the time.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

They do exist. A friend of mine has pairs for his whole family.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There are some with illuminated soles.
They just arent blinky.

Oh and they are most likely to be found in specialty shops or online.

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

I've had some that are dogshit and broke

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

They already do. You can also get Heelys in adult sizes, in case anyone was wondering.

[–] Usernameblankface@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Lights, yes.

Blinking or strobing lights, no

If you must have blinky lights, there should be something different than walking that sets off the blinking show.

[–] jim3692@discuss.online 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

something different that sets off the blinking show

It would amazing if we had an app that controls the shoe lights. I love needing an app for every single product/device I buy.

However, I can think of some use cases for "smart" RGB shoes

  1. Color sync for dancers
  2. Blinkers for scooters/bicycles
[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Probably easy to modify (for electrical engineers) to manufactured shoes

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Usernameblankface@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well, it's not walking. Dance mode, activate!

i would go feral if i could have light up sketchers in adult sizes GIMME PLEEEEASE

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yes. With rechargeable batteries, or some obvious way to change the batteries.

Do be certain to advertise them here, so that I am aware these are even for sale. Or take preorders for my shoe size. (Why in the hell is everything NOT a preorder these days?)

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

I had a pair at some point. You could toggle the lights so they looked like regular sneakers when you needed them to. Wouldn't wear them now I think but they were pretty sick for raves and such.

I'd kill for some good quality adult heelys though.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

no but if you want to make some i know people

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I just made a post about camel nutsack and now I see you. Do you want some Crushbone belts?

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know what that is but it camel nut sack sounds pretty good

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

My original comment was about Canloe Nusback in a thread about how RPG players will often call NPC's silly names; in this case, Camel Nutsack. The NPC in question accepted belts from a nearby faction (Crushbone) as a quest item. Since he accepted unlimited numbers of them he was often used to grind.

The first time I explained this to anyone in game, I said he was affectionately referred to by his nickname and someone responded that they didn't want to get affectionate with a nutsack.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure they do. LMDDGTFU, yes. If you use the search engine on your browser "LED Sneakers Adult", you will find them. Here's a review of them: https://worksafetytools.com/light-up-shoes-adults-nike-the-ultimate-guide-to-the-coolest-sneakers-with-led-lights/

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

I swear some older folks with demetia had them because their families got it for them. I mean maybe they just fit a large kids size or something.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I mean I got some removable reflectors for my ankles but I feel you
