Anything less than 100% is a bit disappointing, to be honest, but this is promising. Trans rights are human rights!

100% of people don't even think the earth is round. Please lower your expectations.

It's absolutely not all of you. Flat earth Nazis are a thing.

[–] jaek@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I want to see the flat earth nazis fight the moonbase nazis. Preferably to the death.

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Unlike leftists, Nazis are really good at working with people they disagree with. They purge in stages, starting with the most isolated targets, like trans people. They only go after other Nazis when they already control the government.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

It's because they are amoral and have no real ideology beyond control.

[–] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are there any issues that have 100% agreement on anything?

Very impressive to see 91% though. Go Australia!

Are there any issues that have 100% agreement on anything?

"Ted Cruz is not sexy"

"It's impolite to stab your neighbors without a good reason"

"Asbestos pizza is a bad idea"

"A municipal skate park is a bad venue for professional football"

"Viking Hippie should have stopped 2 examples ago"

[–] _AutumnMoon_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

the last one is not 100% agreed on I think you should have kept going :3

"Stepping on a Lego brick barefoot is unpleasant"

"It's generally preferable to not get cancer"

“Hats exist"

"Manchester United FC suck"

"Michael Vick would be a suboptimal spokesperson for PETA"

"Capybaras are chill as fuck"

"There are many pictures and videos of cats on the internet"

"Yogi Bear probably wasn't being homophobic when he claimed to be smarter than the average bear"

"Adulting is hard"

Maybe the other 9% are trans and like a great secret beach don't want everyone to know how fabulous it is to be trans!

That's honestly an amazingly high number, at least compared to my experience in the US. If it weren't for the climate I'd want to move to Australia

[–] Aussieiuszko@aussie.zone 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

We're the 6th largest country on the planet, we stretch from tropical rain forests in the north, to deserts in the west, to snowy mountains in the south with everything in between What climate are you looking for?

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Is the south as cold as like the northern US? I currently live in the mid-atlantic US but if I could actually afford to move I think I would want somewhere a little colder than where I am now

[–] GreatBlueHeron@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, you're not going to get that in Australia. The latitude goes down to about 42° South in Tasmania. Boston is about 42° North. I know there's much more to the climate than just latitude, but gives you some idea.

Interesting that you'd like it colder. I've moved from Australia to Atlantic Canada and much as I'm loving it here - there's a lot to said for a more temperate climate.

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I just hate the summer, fall is fine here but I'd rather it be colder all the time in exchange for not being incredibly hot in the summer

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You might want to look into Scandinavia, Finland, Iceland, the Benelux countries, Northern Germany, Scotland, or Ireland, then.

Of just anywhere in sufficiently high mountains, I guess 🤷

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah Ireland seems really nice, that would probably be one of my top picks if I was moving

[–] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

As a sassenach I shouldn't really be encouraging this but just been up to Glasgow and it's a very compelling proposition!

It also seems to have a very cheap network of flights into the rest of Europe

[–] The_Decryptor@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Is the south as cold as like the northern US?

Apparently yes, in the sense that our buildings are so terribly insulated that there's no real inside/outside temperature difference.

Good on Aussieland!

[–] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I hope they offer transgender asylum soon

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I would be curious where they did the polling and how many people they spoke too.

I can take you to communities in Australia where trans rights wouldn't even be understood then when explaining them they would want to kill the person.

I just find that number to high

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The Redbridge polling was conducted for Equality Australia between February 3 and 7 this year with a sample of 1,013 Australians aged 18 and older.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Where from though? The demographics in Melbourne would be very different to Katherine or Alice Springs

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That's crazy. Idk if we can pass 50% in the us

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I highly doubt this is a reflection of Australians in general (meaning rural Australia). More like a reflection of Australians in the state capitals who are much, much more progressive.

I mean, most of Australia voted 'no' when it came to indigenous rights recently...

[–] sirboozebum@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Australia is one of the most urbanised countries in the industrialised world.

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yep, that's definitely true but unless you live here, you most likely won't understand what i would have meant by state capitals.

Australia is generally conservative politically and only last year had a huge ruckus in a lot of our local council meetings with regards to drag queens reading to children.

Additionally, there's nothing in the article or Equality Australia's website as to who and where they polled. My only concern is for a trans asylum seeker to arrive here expecting 91% of Australia to welcome them and end up in one of our many dodgy suburbs and get hurt.

[–] MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We're still way safer than America, where a lot of refugees are coming from

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

And thank goodness for that, ay.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah as an indigenous person i was kinda disappointed by that haha.

On the other hand though to move forward as a nation we really need to move on from the past and all be Australian together

[–] Soktopraegaeawayok@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Ah nice, now im reading your comments with a thick Australian accent haha

[–] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 5 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry about my brother then as he appears to be playing bingo with the number of prejudices he has. Still, at least he hates everyone.

Immigrants are his favourite hate group, strange to say he's not originally from Australia

[–] GreatBlueHeron@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I find this news very encouraging, but also really hard to believe.

I'm no longer on speaking terms with my mother and two brothers over their pro Ameriacn fascist regime position - and the anti trans stance of said regime is the main attraction for them. They all live in circles of friends where this is normal.

[–] NotJohnSmith@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sorry you had to cut your family out but ultimately you don't need that toxicity in your life so we'll done for improving your life in one easy action!

[–] Funky_Beak@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Really needed to see this after a bigot i went to school with told me being trans was a mental illness.

[–] dreary8154@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Said the Australis not able to buy homes.
