October 17, 2025 -- Fougère Friday

  • Brush: AP Shave Co Summer 28mm G5C
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Évidé Sonnant 6/8" Extra Hollow
  • Lather: Martin de Candre - Fougère - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
  • Aftershave: Fabergé - Brut - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I leaned into the fougère today with a mostly-French setup and totally enjoyed it. I loaded the MdC heavily and hydrated it close to soupiness. Wonderful. I was reminded of u/EldrormR's go with the brain bowl and was thinking, "I might do that 🤔". But I won't.

The OG Fabergé Brut was a great finish to the shave. Nothing more is needed.

Same!

We have another person doing a MdC speed run. Putneyjc is about 5 or 6 weeks in.

I’m impressed. Which scent is he using?

That earthy, woody, grassy scent doesn't get old for most of us. I like the scent but I think Rose would be very difficult to tolerate for months.

[–] snooting@wetshav.ing 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I would also have a hard time with months of only rose.

I actually haven’t met a rose scent I’d be willing to use exclusively until it was gone. Have you?

I really like Rose de Pushkar, but using exclusively one soap is a garantee to go nose-blind to it. I'm not willing to do this with a scent that I like.

I tend to overuse scents that I like, drop them for a while, and then rediscover how great they are. This is primarily why I like changing the soaps I use with the season.

I think I could go through Rosa Oud from Eufros in one go. WestMan Alma (Red Roses · Passion Fruit · Passion Flower · Musk · Cedar · Oud) would work for me too. Otherwise, not a rose scent that is primarily just rose.

Oh man, those both sound fantastic!

They are! Good candidates for BVWSC I guess.

Haverford is such a nice tobacco-centric scent.

Have a nice Friday!

Midday shave here. I'm feeling a slight burn on my face after this shave – hope it is not the soap!

Have a good day!

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound - "Rob's Finest" w/ 25mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Atra - Handle
  • Blade: Personna Twin Pivot Plus (Atra) Cart (5)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Nag Champa - Soap
  • Post Shave: RazoRock - Puros - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Kelp & Sea Mineral - Lotion

Sample kill!

I enjoyed Nag Champa a lot, but it can be cloying. Not to be used if you already have a little headache...

  • Brush: Omega - 10048 28mm Boar
  • Razor: J. Koester's Sons 11/16", full hollow, square point (13)
  • Lather: Fanzine Saponifications - Testing...Testing... - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Lonestar - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Leather - EdT

13th shave without stropping this razor after it was honed. I can tell that the efficiency is dropping off a bit, but it's still cutting well enough. Not sure if I want to continue pushing the edge or give it a good strop before the next go round.

Lonestar and Leather is a lovely combination. I should pick up the Lonestar frag at some point...

Have a great Friday y'all!
