Look, it's simple

She needs to be beautiful, but not too beautiful because otherwise I think she's overly vain

She needs to be smart, but not so smart she threatens my intelligence

She needs to be funny, but not more funny than I am

She needs to have political beliefs that align with mine

She needs to be straight, not political

She needs to be able to pass for white, not political

America Ferrera's speech in the Barbie movie sums it up nicely:

spoiler

"It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.

You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood.

But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.

It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know."

But that's plastic feminism from a toy movie for babies so you're not allowed to find anything good in it smuglord

[–] Magician@hexbear.net 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's wild that some people have takes like that. It's like yeah, art is made under capitalism and is definitely influenced by it, but it's still worthwhile to engage with the art.

I wish I could administer small but unpleasant electric shocks to anyone on Hexbear that uses the it's for babies! cliche to try to shame and shut down people that dare to watch something with insufficient gory torture scenes and/or sexual violence. wojak-nooo unlimited-power

"woman smarter than her idiot husband/boyfriend/coworkers" has been a media mainstay since the golden age of the 1950s, why do you hate tradition mr quart?

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

we all stan morticia, though she was actually written in the 30s

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm not super familiar with the addams family but weren't basically all of them smart and skilled at their own shit?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

Yeah and they stuck together. Honestly pretty cool family dynamics.

fellas, is it gay to accept the presence of women in society??

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 33 points 2 years ago (2 children)

sadly yes the only way to not be gay is to go on all male retreats and have sex exclusively with other men

This is his bread and butter. I have to wonder how hollow he feels inside, doing the same thing over and over again, pandering to the same people who howl like hogs time and time again as he sings the same sad song.

Or maybe he's just too fucking stupid to realize how sad his life is.

[–] Magician@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago (7 children)

It's probably one of those things where he's gotten to the point that if he stops to consider his actions, it would destroy whatever sense of self-worth he has left. He's gonna keep going because it's the only way he can sleep at night.

Devs: We've made every woman character a dumb bimbo who exists as sex appeal and you're still not satisfied?!

Beardo G*mergators: I just hate women.

When will the videogame industry finally have the courage to design a female character with no depth and huge breasts?

it is actually possible to just plain ignore the entirely predictable responses of reactionaries like this nerd

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 21 points 2 years ago

It's fun to laugh at them though, low-hanging fruits as they are

If she was instead the burly, strong sort the Gamers would hate that too. It's literally the same energy as that Parenti quote. I'm seeing it everywhere! "If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology."

[–] Sephitard9001@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah I regret ever learning that quote. I see examples of it almost every single day for years now after reading it

I think this guy just gets mad at the sight of a woman

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago

Dude shes looks like one of those characters in a ad for some shitty mobile game

[–] Magician@hexbear.net 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hmmm something tells me g*mers don't want a woman being able to do anything better than them.

thonk

It's not like they'd be any happier if she was a violent soldier or weapons expert.

How insecure do you have to be to take offense at a fictional character being good at computers?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

And again, we don't even know much of anything about GTA VI, so they're getting mad about nothing

Which is incredibly on brand for them

[–] Sephitard9001@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago (2 children)

"She cleans the hideout and provides all the clean ~~laundry~~ disguises for the crew and cooks all their meals to make them strong and healthy for heists. She's also really good with computers and technology in general because she's a young, hot 18 year old and her partners didn't grow up with-"

OH SO SHE HACKS BETTER THAN THE MEN, HUH? FUCKING SOY WOKE PANDERING-

You don't even need to be smarter than someone to be better at a thing

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 21 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I know someone who looks very similar to that, and she does work in IT so all these loser nerds like the quarter pounder or whatever his name is can just fuck off about it being "unrealistic" lol.

The gamer take flowchart:

Is girl hot? Yes/No -> Is girl too competent? Yes/No -> Proceed with tantrum

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 20 points 2 years ago
  • ✅ Conventionally attractive
  • ✅ Big tiddies

frothingfash WTF she's not a dumb bimbo that makes me feel smart!

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

Just about patient zero in the "my beard is my personality" plague. Even his internet avatar is "look at me look at me beard beard beard I WUZ VI-KAAAANG!"

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago (2 children)

She looks like a sexdoll modeled on 16 year olds, but unless she is also stupid it's those damn feminists ruining video games. The only talents women are allowed to have is being flexible and good at seduction.
