This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

From the Rob Words YouTube channel. Here's the video description:

Let’s uncover the secrets of the NATO phonetic alphabet! 🌏 [ad redacted]

The NATO phonetic alphabet is not a phonetic alphabet and wasn't invented by NATO. However, it has a fascinating story to tell. It is the result of years of linguistic experimentation in the wake of the violence of World War II. So let's explore its development, from ALFA to ZULU.

In this episode, we'll uncover the surprising story of how this alphabet – used by everyone from pilots to police officers – came to be. And look at the strange words that almost made the cut.

Thank you very much to Derby Aero Club at Derby Airfield for kindly allowing us to film. You can find out more about them here: https://www.derbyaeroclub.com/

Yes, he explained why it's spelled that way in the video. The creators were worried that people unfamiliar with English wouldn't pronounce the "ph" properly.

He also explained why Juliett is spelled with two Ts instead of one.

I just learned a day or two ago that that's the correct way? Because non-native speakers have problems with ph?

I only know Alpha.
Alpha (animal)
Alphabet
Alpha goal (from almost every game about CTF)

Right, but you speak english. As then video explains, it was spelled β€œalfa” so people who can’t speak english don’t pronounce it with a p sound.

yeah I couldnt watch that, it kept stopping to show ads inserted into the video and after one stopped, a permanent overlay ad hovered in the bottom left hand side of the video and would not go away.

I don't see any ads at all, whatsoever.

Maybe your new install of unlock origin doesn't have all the lists enabled. Go into the config and make sure the advertisement lists are enabled

[–] sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

nope, all those boxes are checked and I still see the ad at the beginning of the video

  1. Verify you've installed the correct extension

  2. Completely restart your browser, close it all the way out, then open it again

  3. Make sure you see the red badge icon in your extension tray, when you right click on a website, you should see inspect element or block element as a context menu item.
