The Trump administration is drawing up “secret lists of terrorist groups inside the United States,” Senator Elissa Slotkin said on the floor of Congress yesterday — the first such reference to the effects of National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7). The directive, as I’ve reported, lays out Donald Trump’s policies with regard to equating “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”…

...

“The Trump administration define[s] domestic terrorism incredibly broadly,” Slotkin said. “It suggests that any group that talks about anti-Christian values, views they don’t like on migration or race, differing views on the role of the family, religion, or morality could all be grounds for labelling an organization as domestic terrorists.”

There's already a list of people we need to watch out for. Let's see it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 64 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Meanwhile, I see idiotic Confederate dumbasses posting stuff about how Republicans are "standing up for American freedoms".

Bull-fucking-shit they are. I didn't see Democrats step on one freedom of any Confederate dipshit. I see Republicans positively gleeful about stealing away freedom from MILLIONS.

They do realize that about 38% of Americans are not xtian, right? What the fuck does "anti-Christian" even mean? Is it "anti-Christian" to not want any affiliation with your little book club?

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They do realize that about 38% of Americans are not xtian, right?

Wrong.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

They "realize" that 100.0000% of Americans are Christian, because all non-Christians are not Americans regardless of citizenship.

Palantir was built to do this, and does so instantly, nothing to develop - the tech is built.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Isn't Ellison promising to spy on everyone, too?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

I think he wants to get into the thought manipulation game.

Bold of him to call it secret. It's just unpublished.

Welp, I'm surely on it

“Senators warn…” Do something!

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah you're the most powerful piece of the government. Lay it all out and impeach

[–] frustrated@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Impeach? Like they already did twice? They are warning us because they know the mechanisms of accountability are not within their reach.

"First they came for the immigrants, and I was like 'yeah, ok, cool,' and signed legislation increasing their powers to detain people (arc), but now they're coming for James Comey and I'm like 'yo wtf'" - Elissa Slotkin (probably)

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

what exactly about this is NEW news?

fuck they probably have me on a watchlist and I'm not even american

[–] J92@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Perhaps a problem is that nobody is surprised anymore.

If you dont jump when a loud noise goes off anymore, you might not get out of the way of what makes it.

Maybe fake it til you make it. Act shocked about it and tell coworkers that you're terrified.

Or just read one of the forefathers' diaries, see if they managed to articulate the tipping point that began the slope towards revolution and attempt to replicate it?

(I'm speaking generally about this situation, I'm not an american either)

[–] beveradb@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (4 children)

How can I get on it?

I assume keeping my phone on while protesting at the next No Kings priest will help, as will posting "fuck you, rapist pedophile corrupt asshole felon Trump" here...

But how can I be sure? 👀

I'm ready to fight but don't really know where to direct my anger

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Starting violence is exactly what they want you to do. I'm not saying it's never the right call but ultimately a civil war will be bad for everyone

[–] beveradb@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah that's fair. I've been through the ACLU de-escalation training and stuff and won't actively start violence at a peaceful protest or anything, but if I get targeted because of said protesting and end up being targeted by ice (I'm a green card holder, not a citizen) then I'll go down fighting for sure

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, that's absolutely fair. Stay safe

[–] killea@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've been party to a few of these exchanges recently, and between open citizen violence and letting things go on as they are, I think I am now rooting for our society to just collapse under its own weight. And with enough mismanagement, it certainly will (already is). While that will produce a great deal of suffering, at least it could provide a chance to fix some things.

Like the entire voter registry of democrats?

What good is a "watchlist" if its 80+ million names long?

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's fine, they'll start crossing off names until it is a manageable.

Slotkin is an AIPAC ghoul that the Dems have been trying to push lately as the "hot new star" as a replacement for Kamala. Would t be surprised is she runs in 2028.

It's not secret that it's happening. Palintir is well known to have the contract to built the list. The secret is who's been flagged as scheduled for termination or deportation out whatever.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Centrists realizing they're getting swept in with the lefties.

I don't think you have to warn anyone about that one

About the only useful thing about the American government at this point is for them to tell you information that everyone already knows about.

If there are protestors or critics that is even more reason a good president should be listening to their concerns, even if he doesn't agree with them. Not trying to make enemies out of them.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Jesus said that if someone asks for your coat, you should give your cloak to them also. IDK guys, that sounds pretty anti-capitalist to me.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

I assume no one in the Trump admin knows wtf Lemmy is, so we're safe here maybe.

[–] Grandslamdalf@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

I wrote an angry text to one of my MAGA senators while really high. I fully expect to be on a list.

This has existed for decades but i guess they are expanding the criteria for who makes it onto the list.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I had just assumed that the NSA and FBI were already doing that, or will Trump's list be a different, more incompetent one?

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

If a list is of virtually everyone it stops being a useful list.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

It starts being an excuse to disappear anyone you don't like.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

This is the problem. A list you can’t see, a list that contains assumed infractions you can’t defend against, in a system of masked police that will never give you a chance at due process.

If the worst people in society are making a list of enemies it should be considered a moral failure to not make the list.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

Well I'm sure most of us are on that list

[–] ChetManly@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Rich out of touch corporate democrat that will issue blank checks to a nation committing a genocide says something we already know in an attempt at some relevancy. Fuck Slotkin.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 7 points 3 weeks ago

Not much of a secret...

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago

No one cares, especially the USA citizens. If they really cared Trump would be out yesterday.

[–] dick_fineman@discuss.online 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Hey news, can you stop being so depressing? How about a news about a dog...who...defies all odda to...IDK...reunite with the young kid with cancer he loved. IDK, make something up...this shit is getting too bleak.

I really hope that all this bullshit shows just how bad many 'anti-terrorism' laws were and see them all be repealed.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 weeks ago

Why not just pick people at random? The list is obviously useless.
