Home is chaos but I chose to prioritise food and friends this weekend. This week I am aiming to eat fresh and lower fat/sugar. And to get up between 6/6:30 each day. I need to.slot into a rhythm

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

it takes a while to make order from KAOS, I am halfway there and even halfway there feels great

you can do this :)

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

You go girl!

I plan on eating no peanut puffs all week even though I have 10 bags left and I dream about them.

3 interviews this week.

Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.

There’s definitely a feeling of down heartedness with the rejections but I generally make it to the final round for the ones I’ve proceeded with.

Due to circumstance it’s imperative that I be employed full time, but I know it’s only a matter of time.

I’ve done my interview prep for tomorrow so it’s time for chill time.

It's definitely a situation I'm glad to be out of, I've always struggled when I've needed to get a job. The last time I think it was about three months out of work before I got something, and then I got two offers within the same week!

I've got my fingers crossed for you. The search sucks, but you will get there.

It’s funny how it all works out. I’ve had the same experience. Crickets then all of a sudden multiple offers.

Thanks for the kind words :)

Hey good luck man! 🍀🤞🏼

Much appreciated :)

I threw away the yummy new zealand lollies I bought with my b'day money , sigh, I can do this

on a really good note I bought the young seagoons a complete kitchen's worth of new and near new italian stainless steel cook ware for pennies on the dollar, they are stoked

I also bought a box of hand made ceramic dining ware for them, a blender, a juicer and a giant good quality microwave

I know there's the saying with sugary stuff that it it's in your shopping basket, it's in your mouth, but surely throwing them out was a bit mean to yourself? Unless you didn't want them at all or had no restraint?

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

no restraint

and Miss Seagoon is bringing in a small quantity in a few weeks so I have something to look forward to

I see very ominous clouds, it’s about to pour

Bucketing down here in Thornbury. And the wind has changed to the south. Obviously watering the garden this afternoon worked ...

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

It's hammering down here.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

Today I only did 4,594 steps, which is odd as I went grocery shopping and did laundry 🤔 It was a day where I mostly hung out with the kids cooking and eating though. It is the beginning of my irl birthday week, so given the volume of cakes and treats that will be consumed I don't hold out much hope of keeping the weight down 😆 It is but one week of the year and I intend to enjoy it without guilt, so I will keep tracking my steps and weight and likely do little else. It'll be interesting: exactly what is the effect of a week of dietary abandon on my weight? And how long will it take to undo the "damage?" Will I succumb to guilt and exercise to counter the indulgence?

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Speaking from a degree of experience 1 week physically isn’t a huge deal. It’s more about being able to come back to the discipline you’ve already created.

I’ve done the whole “I’m doing double gym to make up for the food I shouldn’t have eaten” and I’ll be honest, it’s not a great way to relate to food.

Enjoy your birthday week, have fun and when it’s over just jump back in where you left off :)

Happy birthday week!!!!

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You're right. I get into this cycle where I'm really good for a while, exercising and avoiding the treat foods, and then I eventually crack and eat a few things I shouldn't. Then it's like I'm all, "well I've ruined it all now!" instead of just maintaining consistency. I can't remember who said it, but they allowed themselves a small amount of treat food regularly because if they didn't, they'd eventually and inevitably fail their diet in a spectacular way and go on a ravenous treat bingeing rampage. This is an idea I need to adopt I think!

I think that's the way to go.

Consistency really is key because eventually you start only wanting the good food. Because it makes you feel good. It takes a little time to get there but when you do you'll know it.

You get to a point where eating not healthy affects you because you've built up a stronger foundation of health.

I'm what we'll call "gym culture" there is absolutely the cheat day because it's human nature to want something a little sugary or whatever.

It's OK to slip up. But getting back into it as soon as you can I reckon is a good way to go about things.

Enjoy your birthday week without guilt. And when you're ready, you can get back to working towards your goal :)

Might be interesting to check your step counter/watch/whatever in case it reset itself to zero at midday. My boss has a watch thingy that counts his steps and one day he was morally certain he'd done 'enough' only to find that only the steps from midday onward had been counted. Something to do with a 12 hour clock not a 24 hour one. The watch turned out not to be faulty, he'd just set it up on the wrong timing. Worth checking imo. And happy birfday!

Have a fabulous birthday week!

This is what the consistent steps are for - being able to indulge when you deserve it! Have a great birthday week.

Turns out my friend has a little food processor they never use (hand me down from old relative) so I have scored a food processor at least for a while to test if the ease of bulk chopping beats the pain of storage in a tiny kitchen.

And then I got home and realised I have some gf apple turnovers in the freezer. Coffee snack sorted

The most exciting thing that’s happened in my suburb all week is that it’s rained heavily.

The even worse part is that I’m excited

“Oh wow! It’s almost hailing! I’d better go and look out the window! Wowsers that’s intense! Off to the back door to have a better look!”

God I miss living closer to the city.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

peace and quiet is a good thing

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Not for me unfortunately. I love the chaos of the city.

Plus I’m a bachelor. The suburbs aren’t the place for me.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

oh I love the city too, I'm basically at the beach doing rehab, taking a break from a wild wild life ...lol

( This is the first time in over 25 years i have been further than 1 km from the CBD )

Had some nice sourdough toast for breakfast. It's been a while since I just had some good bread.

There's a nice sourdough bakery near us but I stopped making trips there after the kids were born, and they stopped making bread during the week while some roadworks were happening at the train station down the road.

I've had a lovely time babysitting the niblings, and will now spend an afternoon happily cooking things

I’ve been a sad slug today. No walk, no pull downs. Trying to at least do some chores to not fall behind.

spoilerIt feels like any time I try to join a new group there are invariably adult cliques, and there’s no way to stick up for myself against bitchy people without becoming the focus of escalating drama. And it’s like do I try to adjust or just leave? It’s really isolating and discouraging.

So after many many months I have finished my listen of all the Terry Pratchett Discworld books in order. Had read a couple before but not the series and the newish penguin audiobooks are great. Such good company as I potter around cooking and stuff. Such incredible storytelling and characters.

Now I am a bit lost. What should I listen to next? Any good long form podcasts or audio series out there? Non fiction is fine but not current affairs. I get enough news and try to limit the doom....I currently have an audible account but might ditch the subscription now this big listen is done....
