As expected, the people who were already doing illegal things with machetes don't care about the machete ban. I can't see Victoria backing down on it though, they'll probably claim safety requires expanding the ban to knives in general and screw over more law abiding people.

I don't think anyone is surprised that people who would use a machete against another human would not return the machete.. however it's more of a longer term plan to reduce ease of access to machetes over time. Yes, if someone was hellbent on using a machete they would be able to source them.
