These people are spineless.

[–] Angelevo@feddit.nl 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

The company is called Salesforce. Who else can head such a beast but an incarnation of Satan himzelf.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 16 points 7 hours ago

You work and work and work, trying to get the company's brand image polished, and then keep it that way, and the dumbass CEO opens his mouth and dismantles a year of work with one stupid utterance.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You know what would get "dangerous" people of the streets? Houses. People need houses and universal income if fat fucks like this get to spew their hate. Freedom of speech is protected amendment but the right to equatable housing should be above freedom of religion, because most use their religion to justify poor people and venerate the wealthy. The world needs less billionaires and millionaires, because the 20 people that are wealthy ruin it for the many billions of people that just survive and just scrape by

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 1 points 12 minutes ago

They don't want people off the streets. The right thrive on stoking the fear and resentment of their base, and what better fuel for the fire than people on the lowest rungs of society.

This is why I have been increasingly frustrated at the UK's current government, who are shitting themselves about the rise of the right wing Reform party, but refuse to understand that capitulating to their "stop the boats" anti-immigrant rhetoric, they're just yielding more ground to the reactionary right.

I don't expect establishment politicians to actually give a fuck about regular people, but they are actively at risk of losing their political power if they continue to ignore the actual root causes of the social malaise that Reform are exploiting. It's beyond obvious that we are in dire need of investment in services and infrastructure, but I guess they're afraid of pissing off their political donors and other people with unelected power (billionaires etc.)

This is the motherfucker that decided to RTO the entire company after telling us that he wouldn't RTO the Slack team since a large potion of our team was remote. I had to find another job. Fuck this asshole.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

What an idiot.

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

let them eat cake

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 24 points 11 hours ago

These pieces of shit are everywhere!

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 10 points 10 hours ago

Eye of sauron, what did you expect?

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 25 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Naturally our biggest customer is undergoing migrating from Siebel to Salesforce. I don't have a dog in that fight other than to say the performance seems much worse. But I always hate when my efforts turn out to support the profits of rich assholes. Still, it's a rare position that doesn't benefit those bastards in some way. Even when I was contracting for local government, it was working for nepotistic pricks.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Salesforce is a brand name, for executives that care about style over substance. Smart teams have been moving away from it for a while now, there are even open-source alternatives now, or commercial options that don't require a dedicated database administrator at your company and special training to use. It's a behemoth that will thunder when it falls.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago

It's just a service with an API to me, same as any other. But it does seem to have 20x worse performance (to be fair, migration isn't complete and things might not be tuned right).

But I kinda hate it just because it is everywhere and always such a bottleneck to improvement.

Sees other tech CEOs taking a heel turn

Hey, I can be a piece of shit too!

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 13 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

If any CEOs would do it, it makes sense it would be tech CEOs. Big tech is just as useful in a democracy as it would be to a totalitarian dictatorship, if not even more so. Thats a big difference from things like independent media companies, or major corporations that produce much of anything that isnt beneficial to a totalitarian state. Tech companies have the means to help a dictator control their citizens lives and spy on them, while a big food producer or car manufacturer or whatever does not

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Why would tech CEOs be any different from other companies?

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca 139 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (2 children)

Lmao, the CEO of Salesforce is congratulating Trump and Musk on their efficiency efforts?

Salesforce is a fucking cancerous efficiency draining leach on society.

It is hands down one of the most incompetent and greedily developed platforms in the world. Literally every Fortune 500 company using it would spend far less and get far more by building the equivalent with internal dev teams.

[–] Master167@lemmy.world 13 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

There's so much of the systems my company has built and uses that has a bunch of extra code for various features because "Salesforce doesn't support [...]" or "Salesforce makes it hard to [...]". This includes simple programing stuff like "this field is a boolean" and scheduling items.

I was a retail investor in Salesforce before I worked with their stuff. Then I sold it for reasons like this.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Setting it up for a client I was immediately dead-ended by report fields that couldn't be filtered or searched in a way that made sense, so there I am apologizing for the software on day 3.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Mood. I was working on hubspot patches when none of my clients were even using it. Nobody likes their crm is the lesson I learned

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I spent a year at a software company that built software on top of Salesforce and was just flabbergasted by the decisions and restrictions they had.

You'd hit hard limits on things like compute and number of requests etc with no literally no way of increasing or scaling them outside of paying absurd custom contract fees to salesforce. It lead to a ton of stuff having to use external platforms to do things and all of these horrible kludgy workarounds, whereas at any other software company it would have just been a matter of your infrastructure automatically spinning up another instance during high load periods.

Then their frameworks and programming languages are just piles of garbage.

Apex is their backend language and it's basically an extremely old and limited version of Java, but not only does it not support any of the niceties of modern Java, it also doesn't support any actual Java packages or frameworks so stuff like Kotlin or the Spring ecosystem is out of the question. It doesn't even come with a framework for writing unit tests. On top of that, you then have all these insane restrictions on how your code files are organized. There's no name spacing, all your code files have to be in a single flat directory, there's file length restrictions and character restrictions and even casing restrictions... depending on where you reference an Apex class, it could use one of three different name syntaxes (i.e. MyClass has to be referred to as myClass in some places, MyClass in others, and my-class in others).

Their frontend language was a pile of even shittier garbage, though was replaced with their own web component framework that is at least halfway similar to standard web components. But they still come with the crazy lack of name spacing and all the file naming and organization restrictions, they still don't support TypeScript, and they come with literally no ootb methods for State Management, routing, etc.

And all of their dev infrastructure has to run on an instance of a Salesforce server so there is literally no way of developing actually locally.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 37 points 18 hours ago

Preach, my brother. Salesforce is the devil

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 18 points 14 hours ago

IT people of Lemmy!

Any chance there are problems with the next Salesforce patch that presages ongoing issues?

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 31 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Your software sucks asshole.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 11 points 15 hours ago

Yeah we moved to Odoo

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 86 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

This is the guy, running a cloud platform attacked by multiple hacking groups to steal their customers data. There are 14 cases underway for breach of security and privacy. They dont care about their own customers.

[–] seaQueue@lemmy.world 27 points 18 hours ago

Correction, they care about being protected from their own customers - that's what this whole national guard in cities thing is about, keeping folks away from the wealthy.

Until fairly recently, salesforce posted their logins. Username and password in plain text.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 50 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Sometimes I wonder if Rupert Murdoch has a Fox News for billionaires channel that I don't know about, where they get all their stupid, destructive, and sociopathic ideas.

[–] bagsy@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

its called a golf course.

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 21 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (5 children)

I don't remember where I read this but I recall reading something about how having a certain amount of wealth/power is similar to having severe head trauma... I will see if I can locate it

~~Edit: boy that's hard to search. All I'm getting is shit like "10 easy steps to rewire your brain for wealth!"~~

~~I can't find it so take that with a grain of salt~~

@gdog05@lemmy.world found it. Archive link here

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 hours ago

That's kinda fascinating. Not sure if it's related, but I'm pretty good at my job. Not the best by any means but pretty good. But I have to keep myself humble and deferential, because the moment I huff too many of my own farts, I start fucking up. Self-doubt is literally the fuel that powers my greatness (such as it is).

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, I think so. Thank you

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

For future reference, I self-host an instance of SearXNG to get away from Google. It feels much like search used to be (and searching for "wealthy brain damage" this was like the fifth result). There are public instances as well. It's extremely useful and I hope people utilize it as their default search engine to get away from Google. https://searx.space/

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I don't use Google products anymore other than Maps (and only when I can't find what I need using OSM or Magic Earth). I used DuckDuckGo which has gotten really bad.

I'm aware of SearX and self-hosting but it just seems like a giant pain to set up. I can do it (...and I probably will at some point) but I just get exhausted doing technology the hard way.

I've degoogled my phone, run linux on both laptop and desktop, set up a Pi-hole, and none of that stuff was intuitive or easy to set up and maintain.

I'm aware it's a skill issue but like, I'm just tired man

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

I absolutely get that. Truly. It's a lot. You don't have to self host SearXNG though. You can use one of the public instances. Self hosting just adds a couple of perks is all. I'm glad you've de-Googled! It's not an easy task.

[–] gnate@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Linking to a snapshot from an earlier date allows reading the entire article.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 4 points 18 hours ago

Don't give up! It actually sounds really interesting.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Maybe we can attempt to fix it using cartoon logic. Can't hurt

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

They all have a secret Discord room.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 3 points 18 hours ago

But that would mean they come up with the dumb ideas themselves! I don't think they deserve the credit.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 15 points 16 hours ago

JD is looking rough

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 20 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

White people with money sure do slide right back in to authoritarianism, god damn.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Throwing race in here is weird.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

*looking at the rest of the world

Sure buddy it’s only rich folk who are white, sure.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

Well they only loved freedom before they had money and power

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 3 points 14 hours ago

.... They left?

And here I thought they just gave authoritarianism a nice coat of paint and called it "law enforcement"

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

That community has put up with a lot of shit from this asshole. I’d suggest they raze the tower to the ground, but instead they should crib it with imminent domain and use it as a homeless shelter.
