Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Imagine if Obama had done this

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

They wouldve buried him in his tan suit

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 26 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

My mind is this 🤏 fucking close to declaring my reality is false

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 4 hours ago

Oh, I'm sure that will go over well with the notoriously culturally accepting and tolerant folks of Idaho.

[–] Poppa_Mo@lemmy.world 11 points 7 hours ago

I'm sorry what?

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 158 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

That 747 is getting amazing ROI

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Seriously. What a relatively small price to pay for the stupid amount of political capital it's gotten them.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 7 minutes ago) (1 children)

Why in the world are you guys assuming that's the only bribe they've gotten?

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)
[–] dalekcaan@feddit.nl 23 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Hell, if anything it saves them on not having to maintain a 747

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 10 hours ago

Especially with the 747 being officially out of manufacturing in 2023. Parts prices and specialized technician costs are just going to go up more and more every year.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If a 747 gets me Idaho, what do I need to upgrade to a Dakota? What about Texas?

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 13 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Try letting a tree fall on you. Make sure you sue the ever living shit out of whoever owns that tree.

Oh, and then make sure that once you have the power to do so, you pass a law that prevents anyone else from suing the way you did.

(Greg Abbot did this, he's the governor of Texas)

Rural Idaho is sure to love their new neighbors. Hope they keep their I Voted for This flags high.

[–] AoxoMoxoA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I noticed every day there are less and less of those stupid flags up when I drive through rural areas

Wait till they start building a mosque for the soldiers, im sure Idaho republicans will love that

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 18 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

I mean, rural Idaho is basically Qatar already. It's just a christ-o-fascist tax haven for businesses hiding under a flag.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Are those flags real, by the way? I saw some trolling with similar sentiment, but I wonder how many would be bold enough to put those up IRL?

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 11 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

They definitely exist, but rare in my personal experience. There's a large house near me surrounded by high, castle-style walls. Along the wall facing the street they have multiple flag posts displaying an american flag, a trump flag, a gadsden flag, and a "Yes I voted for this!" trump-like design flag. They used to rotate the flags with POW/MIA, Blue Line and others but it's been pretty unchanged since inauguration.

I've also seen a smaller banner flying from a cybertruck, once.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Oh yeah, that tracks. Along with the cybertruck.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 90 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

A Qatari base on US soil? Wtfbbq

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 21 points 9 hours ago

Turns out that plane wasn't free.

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 83 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Make absolutely no fucking sense.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 46 points 11 hours ago

Even when you include the bribery it still doesn't seem to make sense.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 27 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Have a foreign military on U.S. soil to do things to the U.S. population that the U.S. military might not.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 22 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Looks like it's just to train Qatari pilots without putting the hardware too close to Yemeni drones or Saudi missiles.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up training the next crop of 9/11 hijackers by the end.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago

Axis Powers of Evil #1

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 9 points 8 hours ago

I hope they keep their immigration documents updated otherwise someone's gonna call in an anonymous ICE tip.

[–] Kevlar21@piefed.social 30 points 11 hours ago

Wonder if they’ll deport the Qataris when the building is finished

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

They know Qataris are Muslim, right?

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Muslims with lots of money.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

That makes them effectively white

[–] simulacra_procession@lemmy.today 13 points 10 hours ago

Are they bringing their slave labor to build it? Or are Americans to be their slave labor?

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

These are the people that "gifted" trump the jet, right?

Trump hates America so much that he makes a mockery of it.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 15 points 11 hours ago

I had to check that the wasn't The Onion. smh

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 11 points 10 hours ago

America FIRST! I'm GLAD we're NOT paying our Military right now so we can INSTEAD do This!

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 12 points 11 hours ago

Wow. RepubliQans you just keep getting prouder don't ya.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

I wonder when Bill Burr is gonna land in there with his helicopter to deliver them some free speech comedy! Maybe he can bring Kevin Hart and Pete Davidson and Dave Chappelle.

Will Snoop Dogg get down?

Fuck this timeline.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Are we "great" again yet?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 hours ago

Quid pro quo.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 7 points 11 hours ago

I had to check that the wasn't The Onion. smh

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 3 points 10 hours ago

"America First!"

Republicans are so corrupt and pathetic.
