I really, really hate that one third of this country are truly rubes.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 38 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's probably just that ~a third of humans are vulnerable to the fascist con. Most everyone is vulnerable to one grift or another, though this is probably the most dangerous one of all.

That's a fact that probably won't ever change. We desperately need social infrastructure to counter that threat. Campaigns, laws, cultural norms, social institutions that kind of thing. I don't pretend to know what exactly that would look like, but the need seems clear.

[–] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 weeks ago

I would imagine that the 1/3 that like fascism are also on the bottom of the IQ metric. Dumb people take comfort in authority, I think it's really that simple.

50%

A third is more likely:

  • 29.5% of the adult population voted for trump to be president. Imagine you're a fascist and trump literally says vote for me and we'll never have another election. You gonna sit this one out? Non voting regime supporters surely exist, but only in very small numbers.
  • Winning attracts supporters. We see this in sport, war and politics. Fascism is in the ascendancy. Some percentage of supporters are not ideologically committed but fairweather opportunists who can be pried away.
  • 2024 was not a free and fair election, and the results do not reflect the will of the population. Decades of gerrymandering and disinfo, illegal vote buying schemes, unchecked foreign interference, dark money and an electoral system that was never intended to truly reflect the will of the people gave us the result the wealthy wanted.
  • The voting totals could still be just wrong. Maybe. We all know why republicans spent so much time accusing the other side of being pedophiles, and they spent just as much time accusing them of rampant electoral fraud.

Nonvoters and general election protest voters are also stupid and/or selfish assholes, which pushes the number way past 50%

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Sucks you’re getting downvoted. They always come out of the woodwork and pretend that abstaining is action. I hate non voters more than MAGA.

Oh but they are quick do downvote anyone calling them assholes for letting the insane people pump the gas on fascism.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's because there is a funded psyop promoting eastern dictatorships all over lemmy, and Trump was their preferred candidate. I'm trying to use Piefed.World more often because the main Lemmy developers are such people, but theres a lot of features missing and they haven't updated the instance in a while, sadly. Lemmy and Piefed are both frameworks that these federated instances are built upon.

There was a massive, expensive disinformation campaign coupled with every legal, semi-legal and frequently illegal barrier to voting that the republicans and their allies could bring to bear.

Calling people assholes because the rich invested hordes of time and wealth into driving down turnout doesn't make much sense to me.

Blame the rich fascists for pursuing this, dont blame people just because they live in a system where this is possible.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (9 children)

I saw what was happening. I saw people informing the public of what was happening. Then, I saw the Republicans win the election.

I don't know if someday I'll be able to forgive people for it, but I don't forgive a single cocksucking one, rn.

They are even worse. Don’t @ me yall idiots. “Oh no I’m not getting everything I want, I’m taking my ball and going home!”

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago

he also got alot more black, latino, and asian men this time to, who fell into the manosphere/incelism.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

That number is a lot lower when you factor in the people that are too apathetic / disillusioned to vote or be polled with registered voters.

Trump’s base is about 35% and his approval ratings are around 40%.

[–] Atropos@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

And those numbers are still just so unimaginably high

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Depends where you live and what social media you’re being guided too. The right wing media bubble is quite massive in today’s America.

Also, Lemmy is very much not representative of the surrounding world. If that were true, everyone would be running Linux and would have a home NAS.

People who didnt vote are still rubes.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Some, yes. Others who are super disenfranchised, I kind of get it.

I ran into some pretty fucked up stories when I worked in Alabama for several years. Outside of Birmingham I’d hear stories from black voters about limited polling places, that were super far away, were hard to hit up during work hours, and had good ‘ol boys intimidating anyone that wasn’t white.

And if folks did tough it out, they were gerrymandering to high hell, so the vote was designed to go nowhere.

Now that's how Portland gets it done. Clown on them fascists! Very nice!

(Portland is a twenty five minute drive up the street from me. There's literally nothing going on there. We oregonians are enjoying the return of the rain and of pumpkin spice so fuck off fascists! We are busy!)

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

I just stopped through there on the way home from seaside. Granted it was a few weeks ago, but there were no fires and not once did I fear for my life in any way, shape, or form. I am Canadian, popped through for a conference and had zero trouble. Gotta love the PNW, we don't need your East Coast racism and BS performance politics, please and thank you.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 43 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

Do they have a different meaning on Antifa?

Do they know if they are against the people who are against fascism, that heavily implies that you are pro fascism?

[–] Jesusaurus@lemmy.world 46 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They rely on their base which has no concept of what things mean so they can just make shit up and their base will just gobble it up...

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

they also need to constantly propagandize thier base 24/7 or the 'conservatives" start to realize whats going on. of course they will find/mental gymnastics to assert thier original beliefs of what fox said originally.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago

They don't know that words have meanings.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago

They don't bother breaking down the name. They're just told it's evil and bad.

[–] sibannac@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's too deep. If they said "anti-fascist" it would give the game away. Like Clark Kent putting on his glasses. Antifa = bad is the extent of it messaging wise.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

they think its a single unifed organization, and not a loose coalition.

[–] JargonWagon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

When those riots occurred, it was reported that they were done by a group that called themselves Antifa. People say that there are no groups called Antifa, but there are groups that have Antifa in their name such as Rose City Antifa. It's kinda like how BLM had the movement, idealogy, and also an organization.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

yes they do conservative version of antifa=terrorist group that is organanized, like thier "oathkeepers" proudboys. thats the only frame of reference they have muslims=terrorists or terrorist organization.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago

Never been more proud of Portland than in this moment. Makes me wish I would've moved there when I was debating it a few years ago.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 38 points 3 weeks ago

This shit is pretty brilliant and we need more of it. It’s peaceful and it trends online because it’s funny as fuck. It cuts through the state propaganda machine and shows that these authoritarians hats are creating and selling a false narrative.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 33 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Could you imagine if Biden sent the national guard to Texas to stop the radical right and spewed all this bullshit? There actually would be a civil war.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago

fox and australian Sky news(murdochs other pure propaganda channel on youtube) would be railing on biden 24/7. tagging along with CNN,OAN, NEWSMAX.

[–] CubitOom 4 points 3 weeks ago

Imagine if he sent Yankee national guard troops from Chicago.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 29 points 3 weeks ago

How to troll your oppressors. Master class.

[–] TomArrr@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It feels so wrong laughing at a civil war, but it also somehow feels right

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 3 weeks ago

i read an intersting comment in the same situation on a sub earlier this week, the oligarchs want a civil war because they can pick up the pieces and choose the winning side, the last thing they want its a total uprising./revolution(where "heads" start rolling on the floor)

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 weeks ago

At this point, I'd really like to see a survey about the extent to which Americans believe all these lies.

Obviously, the MSM repeat them (and Fox amplifies them), but my feeling is that a majority of people in the US can see this is all bullshit.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Clearly you can see the inflatable frog and dinosaur costume wearers were "starting a fire" in front of ICE field HQ!

Checkmate leftists!

[–] CubitOom 9 points 3 weeks ago

Did you see the red laser beams shoot out that terrorist ukulele player's eyes?

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

The absurdity of these fascist shitheels.

[–] boletus 6 points 3 weeks ago

Proud of Portlandian!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)
