If you really wanted to scare the neighborhood, buy one of those and assemble it to look like the Dark Souls giant skeleton dogs

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

Are you really even celebrating Halloween if you don't have a 1:1 animatronic of The One Reborn in your front yard?

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 28 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

You all should be sourcing the skeletons from sustainable local sources like the closest cemitary.

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What fucking cemetery do you live near that has 12 ft skeletons buried in it?

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Is that not normal?

I have no idea about freedom units 😅

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, most of them only have 2 feet

[–] bss03 7 points 3 weeks ago

12ft is 3.65m

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thats how I got my skulls for the skull throne.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 weeks ago

I got mine at ikea.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Fewer and fewer of those adorable trick or treaters every year. More and more of that cheap tacky plastic crap littering front lawns. It makes me sad for some reason...

More and more of that cheap tacky plastic crap littering front lawns.

The inflatable decorations are my pet-hate. If you don’t keep them running 24/7, they look like a bunch of garbage strewn across the lawn.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It seems like a lot of families go to trunk or treat events instead of going all over the neighborhood. I suppose it's easier, but it's sad.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think the implication is that it's also safer, since you're not confronting strangers on their home domain and it's a smaller area full of witnesses lol.

Although, on the whole, I think the paranoia over trick or treating has been about as productive as the paranoia on tabletop roleplaying games.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Apples with razor blades in them and whatall.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

Sometimes you get lucky!

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 15 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Real wealth is the 20ft Costco one that talks

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I can't find that one online, any info?

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 2 points 3 weeks ago

Was an exaggeration but they do have a big one that looks like it's coming out the ground that makes noise

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh geeze that one was just looping noise and screaming and you could hear the damn thing from across the entire warehouse. I felt so bad for the folks working there, it wouldn't shut up.

...it was also late July or August...

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Get this over to Kirkland stat!

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

There's 3 of those in my neighborhood... Already. Like, do people not care that all their decorations look the same? You'd think if you liked Halloween that much, you'd put slightly more effort into doing something unique

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah get the skeleton but then assemble it wrong and then claim it's a new species.

That works for paleontologists.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Do these huge home Depot skeletons not come pre-assembled? The customer has to figure out where every f****** bone belongs?

Excuse me sir you've got your ulna & radius & tibia & fibula & femurs all mixed up

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The customer has to figure out where every f****** bone belongs?

Well...

🎶The finger bone's connected to the hand bone, The hand bone's connected to the arm bone, The arm bone's connected to the shoulder bone, Now shake dem skeleton bones!

Dem bones, dem bones gonna walk around Dem bones, dem bones, gonna walk around Dem bones, dem bones, gonna walk around Now shake dem skeleton bones!🎶

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

The bones are their money.

You know how some bars have the giant jenga where the blocks are like 4x4s, they should have a giant game of Operation. That plugs into a wall outlet.

Edit: and Hungry Hungry Hippos where the balls are pool balls. I can’t wait to see those fights break out.

[–] BlueLineBae@midwest.social 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Someone in my neighborhood recently put up what I can only describe as a custom life-size statue of the headless horseman on a skeleton horse. It's huge and it's sick as fuck! I'm not typically one that cares for holiday decorations, but that one has my respect.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)
[–] BlueLineBae@midwest.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

No idea. If home depot sells it, then props. It looks a hell of a lot better and has more detail than the giant skeleton. I suppose it's also possible the owner just spruced it up themselves as well.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, they dont. What youre noticing about "all their decorations look the same" is the point

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The point of what? Complete your thoughts

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] BlueLineBae@midwest.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Are belong to us

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's a house near me that has an army of different animal and human skeletons up all year long. For at least 2 years now.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm hoping you mean fake ones.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

There’s probably some HOA regulation.

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm trying to figure out how I can incorporate the 12 foot skeleton into my 100sqft studio apartment.

If I leave the windows open and it's scaling the side of the building and I move my bed I think I can make it work.

The people on the fifth and sixth floor may complain, though.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

You could cut the skeleton into 1” cubes and then build a shelf out of him.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I also need several multipacks of creepy paper.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Lol I grew up in a family that never had any holiday decloration. To me, those feel like luxury.

But honestly tho, I didn't really care much about holidays, other than the fact that there's a day off that school/work gives.

I never dressed up for halloweeen, I think it was silly, even from a young age, I never liked cosplaying, especially not cosplaying monsters. I think I only went to like idk maybe 2 trick or treat, then I just never did it again, didn't like it.

Am I anti-social or something?

Idk wtf even is a "normal" childhood, I never had a good childhood. I just see kids having cool stuff and I never do. Ugh, capitalism...

Sometime I just watch some TV shows or Anime and see child-characters (or flashbacks of characters of their childhood) doing fun stuff and I'm like... idk... so jealous of it. I feel so... emotional about it, I just daydream, get obsessed with idea of a loving family, imagine my self as those characters having fun.

Ah I wish I can just reincarnate and do it again, hope for a better family, in a good country, I wanna experience a fun childhood.

Ah, fuck... I wanna cry

What is life?

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I can't help with most of that, but I get joy from handing out full size candy bars and hanging out with friends on Halloween. For like $100 I have enough full size bars to hand out all night, and two distances of sacktoss for kids to win another piece/pack of Halloween pokemon cards. We sit in the driveway and set up videogames and drink (lightly since you don't want to catch public intoxication) just running the sacktoss for 5 hours.

Seeing kids so happy makes it all worth it.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

I grew up poor as shit and now I make reasonable amounts of money.

With that extra money, I buy random things that make me happy.

A friend invited me to cosplay which I said no. Then they gave me a outfit and I had a lot of fun. So over the past few years, I've been spending $50-100 a year to my costume collection.

Wearing costumes is how I met my wife. So it was worth it.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I have a friend whose neighbors across the street have the 12 ft and various other skeletons that they decorate for different seasons. It was cute the first year.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

Nadja looks kinda like Stanzi Potenza in this shot.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is how I use him. I went through my finances last year and picked him up. He's been so many things this year. I just put a shirt that shows muscle on him for his Halloween costume.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What other things has he been this year?

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

He was Santa last year, then had an Easter Bunny suit, and a bathing suit for summer, a Superman shirt for summer and the movie release, and a back to school outfit with backpack.
