Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

It's worse than dead, it's born again.

The headline is underselling it. The settlements were part of the deal. They were literally bought off.

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you have a source so I can learn more about this?

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 28 points 4 weeks ago

In the article that was posted.

Isenstadt directly connected these settlements to the sale to Liberty, writing that “[a]s part of its deal with Dominion, Liberty officials asked Dominion to settle several other defamation lawsuits against Trump allies who attacked the company over the 2020 election results.”

Thats Alex Isenstadt of Axios they are referencing and provided a link to within the article.

That seems . . Suuuper problematic

Swing states and blue states need to immediately switch all voting back to paper only and hand counted ballots.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

who do we talk to about that? State board of election?

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I think it would depend on the state and if methods of voting are specified by regulation or by law. If you have a State Board of Election, you could start there.

[–] IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 33 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Please tell me they have to give me a paper ballot if I ask.

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 44 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Paper ballots matter if there is a trusted chain of custody and reliable mechanism to count them. It is looking less and less like that will be the case.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 14 points 4 weeks ago

Yes and no.

Red states? Yeah, I will be... very shocked if any ever even turn "purple" again.

But blue states? That would still require controlling the officials who count the votes which often goes straight down to the county level. It is why the people who have been insisting that Christopher fucking Titus is the world's bravest whistle blower and proved that the 2024 election was stolen... are idiots. Because it would require trump and musk to have usurped government at essentially every single level without anyone ever finding out.

This? This is fucked. I am still somewhat optimistic that most blue states will rapidly shift even more towards paper ballots (which we never should have moved away from but...) but... yeah. So, most likely it just further polarizes things.

Now, whether the rapist in chief and his pedophile protecting cronies have any intention of actually obeying the result of elections... how is Adelita Grijalva doing?

To those of you who thought your vote didn't matter: it doesn't anymore.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

At least we all know for 100% certainty now that our votes on these systems will be fucked.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

110% certainty but with paper receipts.

So are those settlements going right back to where they came from? This feels super grifty...
