But we're all out of ideas, and we hate paying creative people a living wage.

give me an xfiles lower decks instead

Hmm, does that work when Mulder and Scully were already like the underdogs of the FBI?

Or would it be like X-Files cleanup crew?

[–] Kraven_the_Hunter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

So "Inside Job" on Netflix then. We already have an X Files Lower Decks show.

[–] NaibofTabr 2 points 6 months ago

Kind of true, and kind of a similar type of humor, though I think a true "Lower Decks" spirit would have to feature regular low-level office workers as the main characters, rather than the director/manager types.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

yea or alien worker drones

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

i figured that was the cleanup crew like in their flashbacks but now i’m not sure

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You are probably right, it's so long ago that I watched X files, just remember Cancer Man and the scary silent Schwarzenegger looking dude.

Tried rewatching some years ago but, it feels like Voyager where it's best to lookup the good episodes before you start.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 2 points 6 months ago

yea watching it now with my wife and man the mythos episodes were so bad sometimes

Asking "Who?" while using a device connected to the sum of all information publicly available is lazy. I'm not mad at you for being lazy but you seem so committed to being lazy that I can only think it is intentional and therefore worth calling you out. I'm lazy too, most of the time. Game recognize game.

If you had searched Ryan Coogler, you'd have found out his most recent film was an original film (not a remake) that he wrote, directed, and produced. It had very good reviews and outperformed box office expectations. Did you see it? If not, I recommend it. It is called Sinners.

Danielle Deadwyler waa someone I had to look up, but I recognized her. Her last film was The Woman in the Yard, which was ambitious but not really my thing. I guess it was that way for a bunch of viewers. That said, her screen presence was better than most. I would like to see what she can do paired with a talent like Coogler, in X-Files or any other project.

yea i’m not going to read past the first line

i’m sure as shit not going to do some reboots job for them, looking stuff up

have a block for stupid personal attacks

[–] mmcintyre@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (2 children)

The personal attack didn't seem very stupid.

[–] Nycto@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I really didn't see this as a personal attack. I was criticizing the action (or in this case the inaction). I wasn't trying to be personally insulting. I even admitted to being lazy myself. Not sure how much more I could soften the blow.

Oh well.

[–] mmcintyre@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I really just meant the comment didn't seem stupid. I should have put quotes around personal attack.

oh no stranger on internet agrees with other stranger

join him

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 6 months ago

og xfiles is the best, its better not to have a "reimagined" series.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Oooo... two current faves. Nice.

[–] CallMeAnAI@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

What are they going to do? Half the population believes this shit.

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Easy! Just do something so unbelievable that the current President would never do it!

Oh.

Oh no.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Yeah this show is going to suck

Why?

Because they hired a black actress, that's why.

Stop

Remove that down vote, hear me out

I got nothing against black actors, make the entire cast black for all I care. If it's good, I'll watch it.

And therein lies the problem; whenever media companies start including minorities, an extra black person, a gay actor or (oh, worse!) a gay character or (ooohhh my god) a trans actor, you can bet your ass that it's not because they're sincerely try to be inclusive, they just have a shit product and use the minorities to reflect any criticism with "you're just minority phobic!"

Usually it's the writing that is just balls to the wall dumb, lazy, and just plain bad, sometimes it's the acting too. Either way, the show is bad, and if you dare to say so, you'll just end up in the "you hate trans!" camp even though you have nothing at all against trans

Just to clarify, AGAIN, give me a show with only black trans lesbians or whatever and if it's interesting or well written or just plain fun, I'll watch the shit out of it, as I don't care for a second about any of that, I just want good television.

Don't retcon existing characters into something different as that rarely works out (BSG Starbuck being a noticable exception to that, ST Picard's seven of nine being a very good example of that). Want a gay black character? Add one! But write the character well, give them a good back story, and FFS whatever you do, do it for the right reasons, not to cover up your shitty writing

With that in mind, yeah, they cast a black women in place, so I'm not holdingy breath about the new x flies being any good at all. I wish it were different

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I don't know homie I think Ryan Coogler is pretty sincere and he's made a billion dollars for the people who hire him so probably not a cynical as you think

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Same could be said for JJ Abrams right before he tossed star trek off a cliff. It never recovered and now there is new worlds that everyone is raging about but I fucking refuse to watch it after having been disappointed to hell and back for over a decade

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 2 points 6 months ago

Lower Decks is great, it's a love letter to 90s trek. There is also a cool videogame called Star Trek Resurgence which is probably up your alley.

Also, X-Files already went off the cliff during its original run and when it was revived and they retconned everything in the first episode.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago

This is a brilliant satire of bad faith arguments.
