The Finnish Parliament ended up opposing Chat Control as well, but not because they ultimately oppose mass surveillance (of course not!), but that they want it to be "voluntary" on the part of the service providers, and also that this "voluntary" mass surveillance by the service providers must somehow not "factually lead to widespread and indiscriminate interference in the content of communications". They also said that the eventual "voluntary" mass surveillance must be "sufficiently efficient" – we wouldn't want inefficient mass surveillance now would we?
Here are the Parliament's press releases on this:
- Parliament of Finland does not support the compromise proposal on the CSAM Regulation
- Eduskunta ei tue Tanskan kompromissiehdotusta CSAM-asetukseksi
- Suuri valiokunta yhtyy täsmennyksin valtioneuvoston kantaan neuvotteluissa CSAM-asetuksesta
(The Finnish ones are more detailed. Note that Google Translate's Finnish translations are garbage but eg. DeepL translates Finnish fairly well, although you'll have to copy-paste.)
